Hotel Transylvania gets a monster line-up in new artwork from film

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Adam Sandler must be stopped.  As advertised in a new poster (actually not an “official poster” but artwork from the film — see below), the creatively self-destructive comedian is encroaching his stale brand of humor on my beloved horror genre with his next film, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA. With this threat in mind, I think we can all agree Sandler cannot be trusted. If his friends, family, and agents really cared about him, they would have put him on career suicide watch sometime after the release of JACK AND JILL.

Though in terms of Sandler’s usual fare, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA seems to have some potential. What we have here is an animated, family friendly homage to classic monster movies with an amusing enough premise and a cast of creatures voiced by Sandler’s typical rogue’s gallery (Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, etc.). SAMURAI JACK-creator Genndy Tartakovsky directing puts me at ease and longtime SNL-guru Robert Smigel co-writing can’t hurt either.

Still, based on his recent output, Sandler could wind up derailing the film in an EIGHT CRAZY NIGHTS-like fashion. Maybe HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA won’t be a train wreck for the whole family, but that won’t be confirmed until September 28th. Until then, check out the synopsis and artwork below. While you’re at it, go watch DIRTY WORK and remember what it was like when Happy Madison productions were ballsy and funny.

Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count’s teenage daughter.
