Hotel Transylvania to haunt television in 2017

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, the franchise starring Adam Sandler as a hotel-owning Dracula and Selena Gomez as his undead daughter Mavis, will be sucking its way onto its own cartoon thanks to Sony Pictures, who have just struck up a deal with the Canadian animation studio Nelvana. With a planned early 2017 airdate, the TV adaptation will focus on the escapades of Mavis and her teenage friends.

Says Kristine Belson, Sony Pictures Animation president:

Audiences have embraced the world and characters of Hotel Transylvania, so we are thrilled to be partnering with Nelvana to take them on new adventures, expanding on the teenage years of Mavis and her friends at the world-famous monster five-star resort!

The Hotel Transylvania cartoon is joining a legion of new horror TV properties currently on air or in development, including Fear the Walking Dead, Damien, Scream: The TV Series, Scream Queens, and Ash vs Evil Dead, though it is the first children's property to jump into the fray. TV really is becoming the new haven for horror since the massive success of shows like The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, so despite one's opinions on the Hotel Transylvania franchise itself, this is overwhelmingly positive news.

The series will be preceded by HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2, which depicts Selena Gomez's character having a kid for some unfathomable reason, coming out in theaters on September 25, 2015.
