AMC's upcoming aquatic horror series The Terror has just conscripted four new crew members! Leading the charge is Jared Harris (THE QUIET ONES, POLTERGEIST, Mad Men), who will join the cast as Francis Crozier, Captain of the HMS Terror and second in command of the expedition. He is a brilliant sailor and captain, but also an Irishman who has reached his glass ceiling in the British Royal Navy and has become disillusioned with its pomp and politics.

He will be joined by Ciaran Hinds (THERE WILL BE BLOOD), Paul Ready (Cuffs), and Adam Nagaitis (Bernard Rose's FRANKENSTEIN), who will play crew members Sir John Franklin, Henry Goodsir, and Cornelius Hickey respectively. They join Tobiaz Menzies, who has already been cast as James Fitzjames, a member of the Royal Navy.

Based on the 2007 novel by Dan Simmons, The Terror:

is set in 1847, when a Royal Navy expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage is attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crews in a suspenseful and desperate game of survival. It is a fictionalized account of Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror.

The 10 episode series is a co-production of Scott Free, Alexandra Milchan's Emjag Productions, Entertainment 360, and AMC Studios. David Kajganich handled the adaptation of Simmons' source material and will be co-showrunning with Soo Hugh.

Production begins on The Terror in Budapest this Winter. The show will premiere on AMC in 2017.
