Jena Malone could be Catching Fire, Mia Wasikowska will not

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Contrary to recent reports, it looks like Mia Wasikowska (below) was not approached to play Johanna Mason in THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE and even if that was the case, would not be able to do the movie due to prior commitments. According to Entertainment Weekly, someone else who might get a shot at the part is Jena Malone (SUCKER PUNCH, DONNIE DARKO, above). While the young but experienced actress isn’t the only one in the mix to play Johanna (with Zoe Aggeliki also considered for the part, among possible others), it’s been confirmed that she is indeed in the running.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is still slated for a November 22, 2013 release, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. Several key roles are still to be cast, including the aforementioned Mason, Plutarch Heavensbee (reportedly offered to Philip Seymour Hoffman) and the much rumored about Finnick Odair.
