Max von Sydow

At 87 years old, Swedish actor Max von Sydow has a career that spans 67 years and 156 credits. He has done pretty much everything, from Swedish arthouse films like THE SEVENTH SEAL and WILD STRAWBERRIES to studio blockbusters like STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS and the outside-of-canon James Bond film NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN, in which he played Bond's iconic nemesis Blofeld. He has worked with Ingmar Bergman, David Lynch, Woody Allen, Lars von Trier, Dario Argento, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Ridley Scott. He played Jesus Christ in THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD. And, of course, he made a valiant effort to save a possessed little girl in the horror classic THE EXORCIST.

At the 2016 edition of the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, von Sydow's accomplishments in cinema will be acknowledged and celebrated, as he is set to become the latest recipient of the Grand Honorary Award.

Also set to be honored at this year's festival are horror icons Bruce Campbell and Barbara Crampton, who will be receiving Time Machine Awards.

2014 Grand Honorary Award recipient Rob Zombie will be attending the festival and presenting his latest film, 31. 2015 Time Machine Award winner Nicolas Winding Refn's THE NEON DEMON will also be screening.

Other genre films set to play at the festival include THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS, Mike Flanagan's BEFORE I WAKE, Korean films THE WAILING and TRAIN TO BUSAN, Mike Mendez's DON'T KILL IT, and the J-horror crossover SADAKO VS. KAYAKO. There will also be a special 30th anniversary screening of James Cameron's ALIENS.

The Sitges 2016 lineup looks to be packed with awesomeness, so if you can make it to Catalonia to attend the festival from October 7th to 16th you should probably do so. Passes go on sale on the festival's website July 21st.
