Steven Spielberg offers the briefest of updates on Jurassic Park 4 and Robopocalypse

At the fresh age of 65, Steven Spielberg isn’t slowing down one bit. He directed two films last year and seemingly produced about ten. On tap this year: LINCOLN, his long in-the-making biopic of Honest Abe (sans vampires, naturally). That flick may not exactly get your heart thumping, but his 2013 offering probably will: ROBOPOCALYPSE, Spielberg’s return to the sci-fi realm. You’re also probably just a bit stoked for a new JURASSIC PARK flick; if you’re not, well, maybe the kid inside of you is.

Colllider caught up with Mr. Spielberg at a WAR HORSE press conference recently, and got a few sound bites out of him regarding these two flicks. Warning: You’re not going to learn a whole lot about either.

Concerning ROBOPOCALYPSE: “…I’m making a science fiction movie probably in September called Robopocalypse based on Daniel Wilson’s book. It’s a cautionary tale about war between human beings and robots. It’s a big crowd pleaser, I think, a big action popcorn movie with a message. The message is actually in the popcorn! You have to get the popcorn, dig down deep in the bottom and they’ll be a message about what Robopocalypse is really about!”

The synopsis for ROBOPOCALYPSE, which comes out on JULY 3, 2013: In the near future, at a moment no one will notice, all the dazzling technology that runs our world will unite and turn against us. Taking on the persona of a shy human boy, a childlike but massively powerful artificial intelligence known as Archos comes online and assumes control over the global network of machines that regulate everything from transportation to utilities, defense and communication. In the months leading up to this, sporadic glitches are noticed by a handful of unconnected humans – a single mother disconcerted by her daughter’s menacing “smart” toys, a lonely Japanese bachelor who is victimized by his domestic robot companion, an isolated U.S. soldier who witnesses a ‘pacification unit’ go haywire – but most are unaware of the growing rebellion until it is too late.

Now here are Steve’s words on JP4: “I don’t want to talk about Jurassic Park 4 yet – it’s too early – but I can tell you that I’m not directing it. I’m producing it though.”

Again, nothing much – and I dare say most of us probably assumed he’d only be producing anyway…

Wish I could provide a synopsis for JURASSIC PARK 4, but you’re well aware I don’t have that kind of info on me. I’m sorry…
