The Hunger Games advance ticket sales hit one million

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Well I think we can pretty much say that THE HUNGER GAMES is going to win the Box Office this coming weekend.

The advance ticket sales have hit one million, and the forecast for how much money it will rake in over the 3 day period has jumped from $75 million to $95+ million. To put this into perspective, yesterday solely through online sales via Fandango there were 83,000 tickets sold!

Lionsgate must be happy with this news, and the film I’d say has a wider appeal than say TWILIGHT, in the screening I was at for THE HUNGER GAMES (the film is fantastic FYI) there were an equal amount of males and females. Whereas when I saw TWLIGHT, not a male was to be seen. Next week on Monday we shall see what the final figures are and whether this film can become the biggest March opener of all time.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Catch the film starting Friday!
