Mila meets Max Mar. 10, 2008

Mila Kunis, soon to be seen in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, has signed on to co-star with Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming videogame adaptation MAX PAYNE. Kunis will star as Mona Sax, an assassin who teams up with Wahlberg's Payne to avenge the death of his wife and baby. Presumably making out will also ensue. John Moore (BEHIND ENEMY LINES) will direct the film for Fox based on a script by Beau Thorne. The original game was released for Xbox and PS2 in 2001 with a sequel ("The Fall of Max Payne") released in 2003. A third "Max Payne" game was announced shortly thereafter but has never progressed any further than that. It will be interested to see a game like MAX PAYNE, which was so heavily influenced by film, be adapted into a movie itself without seeming overly derivative of the movies it was inspired by (like John Woo's classics and THE MATRIX). Wahlberg recently wrapped filming on THE LOVELY BONES for Peter Jackson and will begin filming PAYNE later this spring in Toronto. And before you ask, yes, Fox is planning for a PG-13 adaptation.

Extra Tidbit: Kunis has been dating Macauley Culkin for six years (?!).

As for Mila as Mona, I'm not convinced either. I guess I can't see her as anyone other than Jackie on That 70's Show either. She's hot though, I'll give her that.

Acting skills? She's a gorgeous spinner. Don't worry about no acting skills.

Sheesh.

I'll hold back any judgments until I actually see some footage, but Mila Kunis looks like shes 20. Wasn't Mona like Mid-30s (and looked it)? I thought she was supposed to be around the same age as Payne and she definitely had that world-weary look and voice. I don't know how well I can get behind this casting choice.

I don't mean to nitpick, but "Max Payne" was actually a PC game that was PORTED to the Xbox and PS2. The sequel was developed for all three. Just FYI.

-5 years and still no Max Payne 3?! What the hell?!

-Milla as Mona: GREAT CHOICE. So long as there's not even A HINT of Jackie from T70S in her performance. Or Meg from FG, while we're on the subject.

-I'm sure Wahlberg will do a great job, but Devils I agree, they could have chosen someone more suitable. I personally think Eric Mabius would fit the role fine. Hell, he looks just like Max from the first game.

I'm probably the biggest Max Payne fan out there, and I think this is a damn good casting choice. I still think they could've done better for Max, though. I like ol' Marky Mark and all, but I don't see him for this character. He needs to be more of an actor. To me, despite all the action he may have to do, Max comes down to that voice of his, and Wahlberg simply doesn't have it. Now, someone like Kiefer Sutherland could really do it for me. Either way, I'm excited. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and it could be one of the best action movies ever made.
