Last Updated on August 2, 2021

After months of low resolution images and summaries based on comics and cobbled together quotes from the cast and crew, we now have our first official image of the cast of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY along with the full synopsis for the movie. Ending speculation and theories, we now know just what Peter Quill and his intergalactic cohorts will be up to this Summer.

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand – with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

The image above (click here for a bigger version) is one we have seen variations of in press materials since the movie began filming and is visible at the close of the teaser shown at Comic Con, but seeing it in gorgeous high resolution just makes it seem even cooler than before. Plus, now from the synopsis we know that Ronan will be the primary villain. There is no mention of the secondary villains and heroes played by Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, or Benicio Del Toro.

Whatever the case, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is shaping up to be a kick ass flip to the positive heroes of THE AVENGERS. Stay tuned for the teaser trailer featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, John C Reilly, Glenn Close, Lee Pace, and the voice talents of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opens on August 1, 2014.
