Awfully Good Movies: Blues Brothers 2000 (Video)
Blues Brothers 2000 (1998)
Director: John Landis
Stars: Dan Aykroyd, John Goodman, Joe Morton
A lot of hate is being thrown around this weekend's GHOSTBUSTERS remake, even with its good reviews, but Awfully Good Movies is here to remind you that if Dan Aykroyd made an actual GHOSTBUSTERS 3, you might get something as bad as the 1998 stinker BLUES BROTHERS 2000! Yes, John Belushi may have gone on to the great Animal House in the sky, but that didn't stop Dan Aykroyd and director John Landis from bringing the Blues Brothers back on another mission from God, with a little help from John Goodman, Myles Bennett Dyson from TERMINATOR 2, an annoying little kid, ghostly cowboys, Neo-Nazis, voodoo queens, zombies...need I say more? And you end up with a movie so confoundingly unfunny and dull, you'll be wishing Dan Aykroyd moved forward with NOTHING BUT TROUBLE 2 instead.
And if you liked this episode of Awfully Good Movies, then show that prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown and check out our previous episodes...

|Extra Tidbit:||Though Aykroyd lost 90 lbs. to reprise the role of Elwood, and both he and Goodman worked on the movie for free to keep the budget down, their efforts couldn't prevent the studio from coming in and making changes to the film, to the point Aykroyd and Landis had to be talked into staying on the film by Universal executive Robert K. Weiss. So Landis and Aykroyd made the indie crime comedy SUSAN'S PLAN the same year to cleanse their palate...only to be met with poor reactions at the AFI Film Festival and having the film go straight to video.|
