Update: Mr. Beaks over at AICN says this is an absolutely false rumor.

Bale is Robin Hood? | Movie News Christian Bale is quickly becoming the go-to guy for resurrecting famous characters in current sequels and/or reimaginings. First, he perfects his brood to become the new Batman, then he signs on to become the post-apocalyptic savior of mankind in TERMINATOR SALVATION and now, Ridley Scott could be looking to him to portray Robin Hood in NOTTINGHAM, the Russell Crowe and Sienna Miller starring action drama in which Hood is the bad guy who robs from the rich and poor then beats the shit out of two of them then bangs their women. This could turn out to be pretty good. Bale hasn't done a good, meaty villain since AMERICAN PSYCHO. What do you guys think?

Extra Tidbit: Bale originally lost the part of PSYCHO to Leonardo DiCaprio then won it again.

Little role reversal . . . in "3:10 to Yuma" - Bale was the good guy and Crowe the bad.

Cool.

I love Bale, ever since I saw American Psycho, but Im afraid he is taken the wrong turn with the Terminator franchise. Though, this part could be interesting.

Might as well his name is attached to everything else. Not that that is a bad thing or anything.

Next week he will be jesus, even though that is perfect casting.

Ive always seen Bale as Robin Hood but I never thought he'd be the bad guy. Its an interesting concept and I look forward to hearing more.

good casting
...but I agree with Tendrillar, the concept for the movie is inherently flawed. Robin Hood is a noble character, a rebel against corruption, and a hero. I hope Scott doesn't ruin these classic characters as by portraying them as the antithesis of who they are. Who wants to root for the Sheriff preserving law in a medieval monarchy? I’d much rather cheer for the the band of Merry Men hiding out in

I was actually hoping for someone a little younger. Not that Bale's all that old, but Robin Hood I always imagine having a boyishness about him, so I guess if you imagine Bale in "Harsh Times" with a British accent, that's what it adds up to. And I was actually hoping too that Crowe could have someone else to act against, since I feel personally like it's too soon for a rematch.

damien6,
He doesn't need to suck anyone's dick to get the roles that he's getting. He's the best actor in Hollywood right now and everyone knows it. What Hollywood filmmaker wouldn't want to cast him?

One could argue that Bale played the villain in The Prestige.

A really bad Idea.
I'm all for Bale playing a good villain, but this concept is so desperate and uninspired. It feels as almost a last resort as the creative wells have seemingly been tapped.

I'd still rather see a classic interpretation of Robin Hood than this revisionist one.

I mean, there hasn't been a really good Robin Hood since Michael ('Robin of Sherwood') Praed...and that was back in the early '80s!

Since then, it's been, what, Kevin Costner (which is like casting Brad Pitt as Sherlock Holmes)? Or that annoying hobbit in the current BBC misfire?

Wow, I never saw that coming. Could be alright, he definitely ain't no Costner that's for sure

My extra tidbit - I meant the Costner thing as a good thing, obviously

Hm. Well, if Robin Hood really is going to be portrayed, beginning-to-end, as a bad guy in NOTTINGHAM, then I sure wouldn't mind Bale playing him. I was rooting for Russell Crowe every step of the way in 3:10 TO YUMA, so it would be no different here.

"Bale hasn't done a good, meaty villain since AMERICAN PSYCHO."

True, but his sniveling villain in Shaft was great. Not the best movie, but the moment he received his comeuppance was nigh orgasmic, seeing as he deftly played such an unbelievable douchebag.

Bale is the man
Bale is the #1 male lead in Hollywood right now as far as I'm concerned. His involvement alone gives me hope for the new Terminator, and this is great news. Crowe, Miller, and Scott probably would've gotten my butt in the seat anyway - but add Bale and it's a can't miss.
