Bazooka Joe? Really?

05.22.2009
Prior to reading this, please bear in mind that it is NOT April Fools Day today. Michael Eisner and his Tornante Co. is adapting a film based on Bazooka Joe, the troublemaking character that's featured in the insert comics that are included with the bubblegum. So there you have it folks. A movie based on gum. A newcomer named Mike Hammer is set to pen the script about a character in a movie based on gum.

I think when I was walking through the forest yesterday in the middle of the night, I happened upon at least 23 struggling writers, all with their own original ideas for films. Some were charming, others not so much, but they were at least all original. In Hollywood they make movies based on gum.
Extra Tidbit: Does anyone actually like this gum?

Cool!!!

That means that movies about the life and times of a young mariner who grows up to one day become Captain Crunch is this much closer to reality!

Can a young Mr. Clean (played by Vin Diesel, of course) be far behind?

Sometimes i scare myself.

This is great news! Now Bazooka Joe will have enough money to finally send me those personalized dog-tags that I ordered in 1991, but never recieved! For the cost of 100 Bazooka comics and $2.95 shipping, combined with an 18 year delivery date, it's a steal!

Another annoying little useless fact about Bazooka, the gum is actually kosher as well. Maybe that's the connection that got something like this green lighted.

Seriously though, it is kosher....check the label

The writer's name is Mike Hammer? Are you sure this isn't a really late April Fool's gag?

Whenever Hollywood grabs some property (toy, comic or otherwise) it never really bothers me. A good chunk of the time I'm a little excited as I'm a big fan boy and really a big kid at heart. Other times news like this is disappointing (Monopoly The Movie) but that's easy to ignore. The is the first time I've read about Hollywood picking up a property and actually wanted to hurt someone in a physical AND emotional manner. Don't know why. Maybe it's because it's getting closer to what Alan Moore

Maybe it's because it's getting closer to what Alan Moore said about Johnny Depp playing Cap'n Crunch. Maybe it's because it's stupid, but this news honestly infuriates me.

Good point

hoodlum.thunder makes an excellent point. If everybody has such great frigin' ideas, go buy a digital camera and an editing program and paint your damn masterpiece already.

wow

One of my favorite childhood memories was when everytime my grandma would go grocery shopping, she would pick me up a box of cracker jack, a mad magazine, and a handful of bazooka joe gum. I would chew most of the gum at once just so i could read the comics inside. what hilarious adventures those rascally bastards had! can't wait for the movie. now if they would only greenlight a cracker jack flick.....
