The first new episode of BBC's Sherlock gets a title and it's a bit of a spoiler! And what's this about a fourth season?

Sherlock and Holmes

I've wanted new episodes of Sherlock for what seems like years now. You think your anticipation for Game of Thrones is high? That's nothing compared to how badly I want to see Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock once again talking down to humanity like we're a bunch of pesky insects.

The first episode is currently filming and executive producer Mark Gatiss sent out this tweet that might be a spoiler. If you haven't seen the second season or if you don't want to have any knowledge of the new season this is your chance to click on something else. You've been warned:

SPOILER!

So the first episode will be called "The Empty Hearse" which shouldn't come as a surprise considering how the second season ended. Like previous episodes, it is loosely connected to one of the Sherlock Holmes stories by author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. "The Empty Hearse" is probably referencing "The Adventure of the Empty House," which is about Sherlock Holmes return after he was believed to be dead due to his final confrontation with Moriarty. The story also introduces the villain Sebastian Moran though there is no word on if the character will make an appearance in the show or not.

Benedict Cumberbatch also recently said that he has agreed to do a fourth season of Sherlock and he would love to return to the character for more adventures after that.

As I said I can't wait to see Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman back as the crime solving duo and I'm going to be all over any news regarding Sherlock like TMZ on Lil Wayne so be on the lookout for more information as it comes in.

Extra Tidbit: As much as I've enjoyed Sherlock I don't know if a fourth season is necessary. I would hate to see Sherlock end up like Monk or House and overstay his welcome.

" I would hate to see Sherlock end up like Monk or House and overstay his welcome."
To be fair, with only 3 frikkin' episodes a season, they could do this for forty more years and come nowhere close to how badly those shows overstayed their welcome.

Woot

Yah found this show last year, its amazing, held off watching the last episode of season 2 for about 2 months because I did not want it to end. This and Game of Thrones are number one draws for any media at this point. But this show might edge out Thrones simply because of all the changes they have made to Thrones, at least with Sherlock I am going in fresh no preconceptions.

WOO and HOO

I am very happy that Cumberbatch and Freeman are coming back - i thought they may be too big after the Hobbit and Star Trek 2 - so i am pumped.

Love this show, but three episodes is not a season. Recurring miniseries at best.

Technically it's 6 episodes. Each of the two 45-minute episodes are glued together to make one movie. The BBC has a long history of having 6-episode seasons. For example, Fawlty Towers ran for 2 seasons... 12 episodes total. Jekyll (also written by Steven Moffat) ran for 1 season... 6 episodes.

As for Sherlock... I'll gladly watch as many episodes as they want to make. Cumberbatch/Freeman are awesome.

House never overstayed his welcome.

Just the poor writers did.

I don't know. I'm worried they're going to pander to the fans, much like other shows (e.g. Supernatural). They already shout out to tumblr in the second season.

I can't be the only one that thought the Baskervilles episode of Sherlock was terribly sleep-inducing.

I agree. Weakest of s2. But I think "The Blind Banker" from season 1 was even weaker. Not terrible, just SLOW.
