Check out the official synopsis and first clip from the Green Arrow television series

05.17.2012

The CW released their fall schedule and the centerpiece is their DC Comics adaptation of the Green Arrow entitled ARROW.  While I was not a big fan of SMALLVILLE, I am always hopeful that we will one day get a quality superhero television series with a major Marvel/DC character.  While ABC still has hope for a HULK series, ARROW may be the only show we have for a while.  Check out the lengthy show synopsis and the first clip from the show.

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance. Based on characters appearing in comic books and graphic novels published by DC Comics, ARROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti ("No Ordinary Family," “Green Lantern,” “Brothers & Sisters”), Marc Guggenheim (“FlashForward,” “Eli Stone”), Andrew Kreisberg (“Warehouse 13,” “The Vampire Diaries”) and David Nutter (“Smallville,” “Supernatural,” “Game of Thrones”). Melissa Kellner Berman (“Eli Stone,” “Dirty Sexy Money”) is co-executive producer. The pilot was directed by David Nutter from a teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim, story by Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim.

I am not terribly impressed. It looks a lot like SMALLVILLE in terms of visual style. I will keep my mind open until I have seen the full pilot.

Within the current trend of one-season shows I foresee this crap-fest having 13 episodes max.

Is it me or nowadays it seems like they are focusing on a single line idea? A doctor that can see his dead wife, a drama about flight attendants, a semi-lost show in the amazons.. are they just randomly shooting at single line ideas until one hits something?

Flash was great, but it cost too much money per epidsode and the viewership wasnt there. Flash was ahead of its time, if it came out now, people would love it!

Come on, Cut SMALLVILLE some slack!

Smallville gets a LOT of flack for its later seasons' mediocrity and overall lacklusterness, but I have to clear one thing, anyone who is a fan of Superman and watched the first 3 seasons of SV should know that in NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM a liveaction modern retelling of Superman can ever be better than what we got in the earlier years. When it was on WB, it had a bigger budget, great Special Effects, one BADASS Lex Luther, a perfectly humble & handsome Clark Kent and some pretty mindblowing story

When it was on WB, it had a bigger budget, great Special Effects, one BADASS Lex Luther, a perfectly humble & handsome Clark Kent and some pretty mindblowing story arcs. It was only in the later seasons (mainly se.5 afterwards) when it started airing in CW and the budget got slashed, not to mention stayed on the air waaay longer than needed, that everyone started to crap on it. Just because the finishing was bad, doesn't mean it once wasn't good.

If ARROW can even match half of the entertainment and excitement of the 1st season of SV, it can be good.

The problem with Smallville is that people were expecting to actually see Superman. I dont mind longer origin stories, but I mean we want Superman, not Super Clark, or Red Blurr or whatever. Season 1 and 2 shouldve been called Smallville and then Season 3 couldve been Metropolis and have Superman in it. If they budget was lacking, they couldve done a Lois & Clark style thing, where he only appears in the final act to save the day. No flights, No tights, is what killed it for me personally. The

The cast for the most part was good and its a shame they didnt at least make a movie with them or something. Instead of that awful Superman Returns.

So wait, a guy gets stuck on an island gets in great shape and can now shoot arrows better than any Olympian ever? OK.

I always liked Green Arrow

in the comics so I want this show to do well, but I'm not sure about it.

Awful

Remember the wonder woman show? This looks just as bad... DC needs to get with the program.

I didnt like Smallville, and I dont think this will be any good either, but who knows. Since GA is a more of street level (as per Herc's comment) guy, it may work. I am a fan of GA in general, so hopefully it will be good.

I am cautiously optimistic. I have always been a fan of the B and C listers who fight crime on a street level more than the big guns who can blow up planets. Plus, there is something particularly bad ass about a dude who would choose to use a bow in a world full of guns

It's on the CW, so it will last at least 5 lackluster seasons, since the WB execs wouldn't know dog crap if it was force fed to them straight from the anus of a German Shepard.

Well...

That one scene was alright although ultimately I'm sure it will be cancelled. They actually made a smart move in not calling it GREEN Arrow so the masses don't get confused with Green Lantern and Green Hornet.
