Christopher McQuarrie talks Mission Impossible 5; trailer coming soon

James Gunn wasn't the only filmmaker to recently take part in an online Q&A. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 director Christopher McQuarrie also did one over the weekend through his Twitter, where revealed a few things about the upcoming film.

According to Christopher McQuarrie, the first MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 trailer and poster will be released soon, and the official title for the movie will be announced in the near future as well. McQuarrie confirmed that Sean Harris is playing the film's villain, and says Paula Patton and Maggie Q were asked to return for the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL sequel, but they couldn't due to scheduling conflicts

While the tone of the movie will be similar to GHOST PROTOCOL, the director did say that every "Mission has a life of its own and goes where it wants," McQuarrie also promised that MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 will feel like an episode of the television series, and there will be references to the previous MI flicks, including the original 1996 Brian De Palma film.

Mission Impossible 5 Tom Cruise Jeremy Renner Ving Rhames Simon Pegg

Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames will have more screen time compared to GHOST PROTOCOL, and Simon Pegg's Benji will be spending more time in the field getting his hands dirty. As for last month's rumor about having to rewrite/reshoot the ending, McQuarrie says that's not the case, and that the finale just had to be prepped.

With MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 now opening this summer instead of during the holiday season, I imagine the first trailer for Christopher McQuarrie's new movie will be released within the next month or two. What do you think the subtitle will be for the fifth MI film?

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5 is set to hit theaters (including IMAX screens) on July 31, 2015.

People like to piss on MI2 and MI3, and granted while they aren't the best in the series, they're still solid films. Anywho, MI5 looks great!

Can't wait to see something on this. I love this series including the much maligned second film which I think is cool and fun, with all its John Woo moments including slow motion fights and flying pigeons.

Seeing these clips

Reminds me of just how god awful MI:2 was. Horrible film - rest are fun though the first one is fairly slow compared to the rest

Hoping for the best

As much as I love the TV Series which I caught reruns growing up and finally experiencing the dvd complete set, I've been finding the films almost as entertaining. But the biggest mistake was making Phelps the villain and killing him off,(also pissed off the original TV actors) Could have made Phelps the Director of IMF. Or maybe have his son, if he had one , as new leader.

I'm thinking the studio has faith in this movie if they're moving it up. Every film in this franchise has been great, with the 4th being my favorite. Hoping the 5th continues to raise the bar. I have high hopes for this!

Can't wait. One of the few franchises where each film is better then it's predecessor (at least in my opinion).

MI3 was a turd compared to the rest, otherwise you would be correct.

I didn't mind the third film, the second MI was not that great imho. Some cool action scenes, but overall I consider it the weakest of the series.
