C’mon Hollywood #185

… no Beyonce in Wonder Woman!
by Sturdy

I read the news that Beyonce wants to be Wonder Woman and I kind of shrugged it off as another self-indulgent diva attempting to draw attention to herself by making a ridiculous request. I figured there would be no way in hell WB, DC or even McG would give her the time of day or let her have any part in the film. But when I read that she actually met with representatives from WB and DC, I realized that this had gone too far.

She’s hot enough, but not talented enough.

The WB and DC are notorious for their stupid f’n decisions. Yeah, they have DARK KNIGHT, but look at all the other BATMAN sequels, SUPERMAN sequels, SUPERGIRL, CATWOMAN. Ahh, yes…CATWOMAN. If there’s a better example of a mismatch actor to comic book character, I want to hear it. And I’m not even sold on McG. I won’t hate on the guy too much, but his short tenure with Wonder Woman isn’t going very well if they’re already talking with Beyonce about taking the lead. Is it too late to get Joss Whedon to come back?

This is what happens when studios don’t listen to their fans.

Beyonce just doesn’t have the talent for this kind of role. Yes, she was in DREAMGIRLS, but she played a pampered diva that got a lot of success more because of her beauty than her actual talent. Hmmmm… Everything she’s been in so far has basically been a deviation of how she really is. It’s like asking Michael Cera to play Captain America. Now she wants to play an Amazonian woman with special powers and cool bracelets? Playing Wonder Woman requires more than just looking hot in a bikini. I’ve made the statement a couple of times that Wonder Woman is probably the single hardest superhero to pull off on the big screen. There’s not a lot to work with and it’s such a fine line between making it cool and cheesy. Do you really want an unproven actress with limited range to take on the role?

What do you think? She has the looks and the talent.

I can accept that Beyonce’s incoherent ramblings got her a meeting, but I can’t accept that WB would give her serious consideration for the role of Wonder Woman. How can WB even be considering such a horrible move? This is normally the time I would throw out a few names, but I’m not completely sold on anyone. The lead needs to be beautiful and have a lot of acting talent. Megan Fox looks the part, but I’m not sure she has the talent to pull it off. What about Jennifer Connelly?

There’s a reason these movies are so great.

Marvel has ample characters and storylines that can and have made good films. DC doesn’t have nearly as many, so they need to protect what they have. Nolan, Bale and Batman was a beautiful match and if you remember back to when they were looking for a director, fans were super excited about Nolan and were clamoring for Bale long before he was announced. I’m not saying WB needs to listen to fans on every single decision, but if they continue to ignore them, they’re sure to have a disaster on their hands.
