Crowe just Robin Hood

Remember all that talk about how Russell Crowe had signed on to star in NOTTINGHAM, a movie that would turn the Robin Hood legend on its ear? Crowe had signed on to star as the now heroic Sheriff of Nottingham while Robin Hood would become the story’s villain. There were even rumors that Christian Bale was in talks to star as Robin Hood. And then there were leaks that the twist in the script was that the Sheriff and Robin Hood were the same person. Now director Ridley Scott clears up all the confusion and reveals they’ve been doing some major behind-the-scenes work. He tells MTV, “[Crowe as both Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham] was an idea so far back, way back when at the time I had this proposed to me, and I read it and thought, ‘I don’t really know what it does for it.'” Instead of Crowe playing both characters or just the Sheriff, Scott reveals the film has been retitled ROBIN HOOD and will simply be an adaptation of the classic Robin Hood story. Explains Scott, “It is better to simply have the evolution of a character called Robin Hood.” Ironically the Sheriff of Nottingham, who once had this film named after him, will now be relegated to a relatively minor character. Scott confirms it will be his next film but doesn’t say when filming might begin.

Boy I was kinda looking forward to having a different take on the ROBIN HOOD tale but now it just seems like they’re doing the same old, same old. If I wanted to see that I’d just go watch the Disney movie or PRINCE OF THIEVES. It just seems like quite a long time in development to just do a standard Robin Hood tale. Oh well… Click here to read more on the film at MTV.
