Darren Aronofsky gets another project titled Machine Man

Darren Aronofsky has another gig.

The director has signed on to helm an adaptation of Max Berry's online novel, MACHINE MAN. This is not to be confused with Marvel's Machine Man.

Well, what about Wolverine 2? Deadline does not specify a start date for MACHINE MAN. They do state that filming for Wolvie will start next year in New York then move on to Japan. It's likely that MACHINE MAN will shoot after Wolverine.

Berry delivered each page of the novel one day at a time. If you want to read it for yourself or check out his other works, head on over here. The novel in full is due out Spring 2011.

MACHINE MAN centers on, "Charlie is a gadget geek and engineer at a forward-thinking tech firm, and he decides to systematically replace his weak fleshy parts with high-end titanium performance upgrades that he has designed. Turns out Charlie isn't the only one with plans for his superior parts."

Extra Tidbit: Aronofsky was attached to helm and co-write on a BATMAN film back in 2000/2001. Wonder how that would have gone.

tidbit..

At the BFI last weekend Aran- described his Batman script as a duct tape batman, - sounds like it would have been way more raw than Nolan's slick flix. He also mentioned that Warners and he agreed that he was too focussed on making the Fountain and so encouraged him to follow that as it was where his heart layed at the time. PLEASE MAKE THIS FILM - Drop wolverine. (unless you have final cut)Also: go see Black Swan it fookin rox!

I love Max Barry! His novels are so fresh and witty and funny. Haven't read "Machine Man" but I'm a big fan of his other stuff. So yeah, Aronofsky directing a Barry story? Count me in!

Yo Nicky!

Here's a review of Darren & Frank's Year One script.

It's interesting sounding to say the least

As long as he devotes the proper time to Wolverine 2 I don't care.

I do wonder if Marvel/Disney is going to sue to change the name of Machine Man?

D.A. could take a romantic comedy with Hugh Grant attached to it and make it amazing. I really like how he's been slightly switching genres with each film. I can see this dude totally going down in history as one of the all time greats.

I would love to see Aronofsky cast Sam Rockwell for this. I think they would make a terrific team and think that Aronofsky has the ability to make any good actor better then they actually thought they were (i.e. Micky Rourke - The Wrestler).

Extra Tidbit

I'm glad he didn't get the chance or didn't follow up on it. I really couldn't see him topping Batman Begins which is the better of the two. I'm sure his version would have been great, not just better than Nolan's.
