Exclusive: A re-shoot for The Wolverine had a familiar face show up! Spoiler warning!

May. 8, 2013by:

The Wolverine

An extremely reliable source in Montreal has contacted JoBlo.com about a scene that was re-shot for THE WOLVERINE on Sunday and has given us some details on the new scene.

Before I get into spoiler territory, here's a bit of other information regarding the new scene: it takes place in an airport and all cell phones were (obviously) banned on set. The re-shoot was for only one scene and it shouldn't effect the release date for THE WOLVERINE.

This is where things get interesting. This news might not come as a huge surprise but I'd still consider it a spoiler so scroll past the image of Logan if you want to know who appears in the new scene.

The Wolverine

So according to our source, the airport scene involves Wolverine....and Professor X. The new scene has the two of them walking into the airport and then going into a freeze frame. The source goes on to say that while things could always change, this is what he/she witnessed and was told on the set of the re-shoot.

What's interesting (and credit goes to fellow editor Alex Maidy for pointing this out) is that THE WOLVERINE is suppose to be set after X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and Professor X died in that film. Granted there was that whole transferring his conscious to a comatose patient thing but it sounds like the "real" Professor X was used for the re-shoot. I doubt it'll be explained why Professor X is alive in THE WOLVERINE but with Logan appearing in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST could the new scene be a tease for that film, similar to Nick Fury showing up at the end of the first IRON MAN? The scene does sound like it appears at the end of the movie, possibly when Wolverine returns from Japan.

Any other year THE WOLVERINE would be in most people's lists of top five movies to see this summer but there are a ton of options this summer. Plus after seeing the new previews for films like MAN OF STEEL, PACIFIC RIM and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, THE WOLVERINE just doesn't seem as epic as some of the other big films this summer. That isn't necessarily a bad thing since THE WOLVERINE looks a little bit more personal and not so much about saving the world, but I do think excitement for the movie has dropped quite a bit recently. I really believe that THE WOLVERINE will be an excellent return for Hugh Jackman's character and that flying under the radar a bit might actually help the film in the long run, but I hope that the movie doesn't get lost in the shuffle of other high profile releases this summer.

Starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Brian Tee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rila Fukushima and Tao Okamoto, you can check out THE WOLVERINE when it claws its way into theaters on July 26th, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Which trailer got you more excited for THE WOLVERINE: the first full one or the one from CinemaCon? Or did both trailers do nothing for you?

I'll wait till video for this... IF I even watch it at all.

I still haven't been able to wash the taste of X-Men Origins: Wolverine out of my mouth.

I will see The Wolverine becuase of the comic fan in me, but I really don't expect much from it.

Still excited for "Wolverine", Don't give 2 shits about "The Last Stand"

Continuity , Smontinuity.

I mean seriously, The X-Men film universe has had it's fair share of plot holes, wasted potential storylines (Weapon X, Dark Phoenix) & the like...but w/ the 2 future X films were about to get in the near future, I think any X fan could (if they were so inclined) just choose to ignore the events of that shitfest "The Last Stand" & just enjoy what Bryan Singer himself says will be a minor "reboot / retcon" involving the events of X3..leading up to the events most

As for everyone shouting "Blasphemy!, Singer Sux!, That's not what supposed to happen!"...well sadly there's not much that can be done for them. No comic book can be adapted DIRECTLY for the screen & some damage control *HAD* to be done to repair Ratner's abortion. So let's them feel all warm in the knowledge that they're the all knowing, nitpicking fanboy until the end of time.

Cyclops.... or rather....

James Marsden was seen at Montreal airport and was on the plane with Halle Berry! They are being as hush hush about it as possible, but he's there! Here's hoping Jean is back too!

I personally am very much looking forward to this one. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine + The Director of 3:10 to Yuma + In an adaptation of Frank Miller's classic miniseries? Yeah, I'll go see that.

Probably a Time Travel issue

Based on DOFP. (but I was hoping they'd say Deadpool / Ryan Reynolds showed up.)

Hmmm

Which professor X? Maybe it's first class prof X warning him of something to come?

it can't be the young prof x because this entire movie takes place after the events of the original trilogy.

I wonder

If Days of Future Past is a time travel/alternate universe event, then perhaps it skewed the event of Professor X dying from the 3rd film. I am wondering if they will ever bring in Cyclopse.

How could someone seeing this filmed possibly know that the scene ends on a freeze frame? Wouldn't that kind of thing not even be decided upon until editing? Why do these scoops just keep getting faker and faker?

PIRATE THIS MOVIE!!!

k... i haven't seen this yet, but all of the news and footage leads me to the conclusion that this movie will be more like "Origins" than anything else. remember when darren aronofsky was attached? this was supposed to be a one-off story. a serious take on wolverine to give the fans what they want. now they're trying to force it into the same x-men movie continuity and throw in all these other cameos and pointless crap (to make it more "marketable" probably). if you love Wolverine, you will let

just a little something

It sounds like its just something joint the two films together.
What actually concern's me about the scene is more to do with days of future past. If the two movies get joined together and it was the real professor X in the scene. Surely the sentinel's have to get mentioned in the wolverine. prof X cant just turn up and ask for help at the end, unless they have completely changed days.

I think you're onto something here. I mean, if the X-Men disband in X3, how do they all return to fight the Sentinels in the future?

Not even that.
The earth is pretty much a wasteland in days of futures past, controlled by the sentinels. Now the mutants are mostly all in camps in the future in days. Sooo how can prof X meet Logan in an airport.

Really hope they don't try to link them, just doesn't fit.

it could just be prof x welcoming wolverine back to america after his self imposed exile, which takes place after the events of xmen 3. prof x could be recruiting the old gang back together having sensed the series of events that will eventually lead to the days of future past saga.

I just hope its not something trying to tie them together. Because in no way could that happen if they are doing days of futures past . Unless its young prof x trying to recruit him in the late 70s early 80s. But i don't think the wolverine is set in those decades.

It sounds pretty cool. But I doubt that it will get lost in the shuffle, the marketing machine is just heating up and I bet there will be a lot more promotional material once Star Trek is released and right before Man of Steel is released. When you think about it, the three biggest movies this summer are all released before the end of June, so Wolverine's end of July release is sitting pretty to make some bank in the theatres.

Sounds fine to me. I just hope that all the movies are able to connect to one another properly after X-Men Days of Future Past and The Wolverine.

The thing that bothers me the most about these films are the inconsistency with its characters and the time frames of the films.

"I doubt it'll be explained why Professor X is alive" - maybe they'll do the right thing and ignore that The Last Stand ever existed.

No mention of Patrick Stewart?

I think there was an explanation that the body in which Professor X transferred his mind was his braindead twin brother.

Probably a double.
Plus, I hear they are ret-conning The Last Stand and Origins (thank goodness)

It does sound like a post credit scene...maybe tied into Days of Future Past.
If that turns out to be the case, it will be a nice adition.

That's cutting it kind of close, but the idea is intriguing given what Maidy pointed out. I hope the Prof looks better in this film than in X-Men Origins Wolverine. It looked like they were cutting all sorts of corners on that one.
