Fallen fun facts

Update: Oh yeah, Michael Bay ain’t going nowhere!

Michael Bay Warring robots emperor Michael Bay recently posted on his official site some fun facts that show just exactly what makes TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN so much more awesome than the original, at least in terms of potential for explosions and destruction. Here’s a taste:

  • 14 robots last time, 46 robots this time (ILM only)
  • If you had all the gold ever mined in the history of man, you could build a little more than half of Devastator.
  • Optimus Prime will be life size on IMAX screens in many forest fight shots.
  • Devastator’s hand is traveling 390 miles per hour when he punches the pyramid.
  • The pyramid destruction simulation was 8 times bigger than the old rigid simulation all-time record holder at ILM.
  • All robot parts laid out end to end would stretch from one side of California to the other, about 180 miles.
  • Devastator’s parts stacked tip to tip would be as tall as 58 empire state buildings.
  • If all the texture maps on the show were printed on 1 square yard sheets, they would cover 13 football fields.

Read the rest of the fun facts over HERE, including the fact that Devastator’s mechanical balls alone are the length of two 747s.

In decidedly sadder news (seriously), it seems Bay has had just about enough of giant, warring sentient robots. He recently mentioned that he would not be directing a third installment in the franchise. Says the detonation pioneer, “I feel like I’ve had enough of the Transformers world…people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers. They (the critics) review me before they’ve even seen the movie. After the three and a half years I’ve spent making these movies, I feel like I’ve had enough of the Transformers world. I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions.” Um, what the fuck? Something without explosions? That’s like asking Shakespeare to write a masterpiece without words. It’s like asking atoms to exist without matter. They simply cannot. And, more importantly, should not.
