Fraser Seeks Vengeance

01.27.2009

If Brendan Fraser is in anyway bent on being taken seriously as a dramatic actor, he sure has a funny way of showing it. Mr. Family Adventure himself has signed on to star in the film FURRY VENGEANCE, in which he will play a real estate developer whose new housing subdivision interferes with a pristine of the Oregon wilderness, pitting the developer against a band of angry critters. Roger Kumble (COLLEGE ROAD TRIP), will direct a script written by MR. WOODCOCK scribes Michael Carnes and Josh Gilbert.

I'm not exactly positive if the "critters" in this film will be live action or animated, but to pretend that I care would be dishonest both to myself, and to you my loyal slaves. Just kidding.

Extra Tidbit: Will we ever see the words "Oscar" and "Brendan Fraser" used in a sentence other than 'Brendan Fraser will never be nominated for an Oscar."?

Get off the Encino Man's back.

Some people don't want to explore the deeper intimates parts of human emotion, and make serious roles for arts sake. Some people just want to have fun and make crappy CGI movies.

He gets paid a lot of money to stand in front of a green screen and make cheesey cracks at a monster that ain't even there. Don't hate on him, you all would take the same paycheck to do the same thing, I know I would.

And most of you wouldn't be nearly as entertaining as he is.

Best thing this guy ever did was his small stint on Scrubs. The end.

It would be interesting to see him do something like Gods and Monsters again or School Ties. He seemed a bit flat in Crash, although at least it wasn't Dudley Dooright 2...Unless he's an idiot savant that enjoys kid's movies, he needs to fire his agent.

"Brandan Fraser was cast in the live action version of Seseame Street as Oscar the Grouch. directed by Fraser BFF, Stephen Sommers."

Thats probably the only time you'd see his name and Oscar together in a sentence. My favorite Fraser movie is still Encino Man. That movie just rocks.

SCHOOL TIES, ANYONE?

Hey yo... I guess Brendan Fraser is now all about "family aventure" movies, and yes... he has starred in MANY lame-ass movies, but he doesn't suck as much as this article implies. Did you guys see School Ties? I'm not saying he deserves an Oscar for that perfomance, but it was rock-solid fo sho, man. Stop the hatin'.

Maybe he takes these roles because he enjoys them.

As for the tidbit: Does it really matter? I'd have even more respect for him as an actor if he publicly said he didn't care about winning an oscar.

Huh?

Luke, what are you talking about? He had nothing to do with L.A. Confidential.

It's funny, I just saw Inkheart this past weekend and thought to myself "Hey, Brendan Fraser is the worst thing about this. Had they gotten Hugh Jackman or somebody worthy of the material is might be doing better."

I really think he has given up on his craft and just chooses scripts based on the amount of CGI there will be ("I hate other actors! I want to talk to a cartoon fish!")

He's all about phoning it in. He had me howling with laughter at the beginning of the movie when he says "I

I never understood all the Brendan Fraser hate either. Sure, he's made some not so great movies, but what actor hasn't? Like someone else already mentioned, he's very watchable and can be quite exceptional when working with the right material. Hell, I think that to be true with any decent actor so why all the hate for just one?

I don't remember him being in L.A. CONFIDENTIAL (it's been a while since I've watched it) but he was pretty great in GODS AND MONSTERS.

On a final note, it's

On a final note, it's always looked down upon when an actor does a role for (what appears to be) just the paycheck. Why is that such a bad thing? Don't they have mortgages to pay too? As long as they don't phone it in (and to be fair, some are guilty of that, but I personally don't feel that Brendan Fraser is) then why shouldn't they take a part to help pay the bills?

There was actually a time when Fraser showed a lot of potential. He had a small but impressive role in L.A. Confidential and there was a decent amount of awards buzz surroudn his performance opposite Ian McKellen in Gods and Monsters.

However, that initial promise has long since been forgotten, and these days he seems content to take on roles simply for the paychecks. Crash aside*, it's been the better part of a decade since he did anything remotely-oscarish and unfortunately, I don't see

*Yes, I realize a lot of people on this site hate this movie, but guess what it hit it big with the academy and that's what this thread is about, so I'm mentioning it.

missed opportunity

Oh man... when I read that film title I thought Brendan Fraser was going to fight furries. Like the animal costume sexual fetish thing. Now THAT would be an interesting movie.

Whats with the ragging this guy takes? He's a very fun and watchable star and he can be great at drama as well. Lay off Brendan Fraser!
