George Lopez, Alan Cumming, Jonathan Winters, and Katy Perry are Smurfs?

Casting seems to be heating up on the live-action/animated SMURFS. Just the other day we announced that the awesome Neil Patrick Harris would be cast as the lead human in the film. And now we’ve got four more to add to the mix: George Lopez, Alan Cumming, Jonathan Winters, and… Katy Perry, WTF?

Lopez and Cumming are reportedly going play “Grouchy Smurf” and “Gutsy Smurf” respectively. Will they somehow get Smurf Lopez to sneak in some of his patented Mexican-flavored barbs? I will seriously go out and OD on crack if that happens.

Old school comedy great Jonathan Winters, whom I’ve always liked from stuff like IT’S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD and the weird-as-f*ck made-for-TV 80s version of ALICE IN WONDERLAND, will voice “Papa Smurf”. Appropriate, since Winters voiced various characters during the time of the Hanna-Barbera “Smurfs” cartoon.

And then there’s Katy Perry, who’s in talks to voice “Smurfette”. THE SMURFS would be the pop singer’s first “acting” role, though she will be seen in GET HIM TO THE GREEK before that but as herself. Have you Google image searched “Smurfette” with the Safe Search off? I have (solely for the purposes of this story, of course). NSFWness abound! And I fully expect creepy Katy Perry/Smurfette manips to surface soon.

THE SMURFS, from director Raja Gosnell (BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA), is set for release July 29, 2011.
