Hoo-ah! Katie Holmes and Al Pacino join Sandler comedy

08.25.2010

In Hollywood there are a few roles that actresses seem to get cast in. The heroine, the damsel in distress, the hot wife of Adam Sandler... With filming set to begin this fall on Sandler's next comedy JACK AND JILL, Sony Pictures has set Katie Holmes to star in the pivotal role of Sandler's arm candy. Holmes joins the not-so-rarefied list of actresses who've played Sandler's love that includes Salma Hayek, Jessica Biel, Drew Barrymore, Marisa Tomei, Winona Ryder and in the upcoming JUST GO WITH IT, both Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman.

The film, which will star Sander and Al Pacino, follows a family man and his troublemaking twin sister. Before you get excited, no, Pacino won't be playing the twin sister, that's Sandler's job. Pacino will be playing himself and how exactly that works into the plot remains to be seen. It doesn't seem that a movie about an obnoxious woman (played by a man in drag) who forces herself on a suburban family lends itself to an appearance by Al Pacino but I suppose I'm wrong about that as it's actually happening.

Sandler's go-to director Dennis Dugan (CHUCK AND LARRY, GROWN UPS) will once again step behind the camera for the film. Pacino has only done three movies in the past five years and two of those were 88 MINUTES and RIGHTEOUS KILL, not so coincidentally two of the worst movies of the past five years. It should also be noted (though I'm not sure why) that this is Holmes' first studio film since BATMAN BEGINS and her marriage to Tom Cruise.

Extra Tidbit: Is it too early to start lining up for this?

Sandler has often made movies with acting greats in stupid supporting roles (Nicholson, Walken, Keitel, etc.).

Oh yeah, and never mind if you like Katie, I'm more bothered when actresses like Katie Holmes and Jessica Biel are considered acceptable love-interests. He just works better with people not so much younger than himself.

I kinda wanna see Pacino as Jack Kevorkian, cuz that actually looks good.

Adam Sandler hasn't learnt a DAMN THING from Funny People, not a damn thing. Even if that character was only loosely based on him, it should still have taught him stuff about chasing the money roles and about his career in general.

Funny People was a money role? I thought it was a darker him, and he was just doing a friend a favor. Still his strongest work.

Whoops, my meaning became garbled. He hasn't learnt a damn thing from Funny people in the respect that it was about a character (that is essentially him) being unsatisfied with his Hollywood life. This new film Jack and Jill is the money role i was refering to, Funny People was the role I was refering to that should have taught him about turning scripts like this down.

This movie sounds awful. Al Pacino is still capable of being awesome, he just needs better scripts. But, him appearing in this is the equivalent of him being in Gigli. As for Katie Holmes, I think she's a good actress, and very underrated. I think she would have had a much better career if she didn't meet Tom Cruise but I'm not going to fault her for marrying and having kids.

Yeah this sounds dumb. I used to be a fan of Sandler back in the day, now he can just go fuck himself. His films aren't funny anymore. Grown Ups was complete shit and the last good film he was in was Reign Over Me, even though he was great in Funny People. Too bad the movie wasn't up to par with him. This will be another Sandler movie I skip.

Ummm...wasn't she in that chicks rob the feds movie with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton and some other chick that I forget? That was a studio film wasn't it? It was definitely after she married Cruise. She's also been on Broadway, so he hasn't kept her locked up in a cage the entire time, which is what I assume you were trying to imply.

Yeah, she turned down the Dark Knight to make that movie. Mad Money I think. "Hey Katie, how'd that work out for ya?"

I use to love Sandler back in the day. I guess I've fallen in the group with many people today that think his films are crap. I thought his last amusing film was Click. Oh well, at least Pacino can make flops but I'll always love him. Hoo-ah!!

Don't forget about Kate Beckinsale in that long list too...yum.

But this film sounds awful. R.I.P. Al Pacino's career.
