Inglourious tops Pulp

09.21.2009

As if you didn't already see this coming, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS has surpassed PULP FICTION as the highest grossing Tarantino flick.

The Weinstein Company was more than happy to announce that INGLOURIOUS has grossed over $108 million in North American box office receipts since it's release on August 21, 2009. The movie squeaked by with PULP having made $107,966,120 with it's initial release back in October of 1994.

"We have been Quentin's biggest fans since the beginning. It was extremely gratifying to see INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS put up such huge numbers. It is a kick ass film from a director who always keeps me and audiences on their toes", says Harvey Weinstein on the success of the film. INGLOURIOUS impressed a lot of the fans as well. Even our own Moreno who I think at times is a little more than impressed. So much so that he dreams of being a Basterd himself.

Mr. Weinstein says that the success is due to it being first rate and the marketing plan, "It was great working with Biz Stone at Twitter on ‘Inglourious..’ It took the campaign to another level." If you're like me, you might have been following The Real Basterds on Twitter. The film was the first to make use of Twitter and other social networking sites directly, even involving Twitter at the LA premiere.

Extra Tidbit: INGLOURIOUS was good, but was not my favorite. I know I might get some shit for that but so be it. I really would have liked to see more screen time with Til Schweiger as well.

It's fuckin' awesome news that IB is successful but it won't reach the adjusted number of PF, nor its attendance level. And that statement is fine with me since PF > IB

Personally, I thought Inglourious Basterds was phenomenal. I do, however, wish there was more character development with The Bear Jew and all.

Sure, more Stiglitz would be kick-ass. I wouldn't call this my favorite, but I do think it had a certain class to it that sets it apart from all other QT movies. Namely, rather than tossing in pop-culture references to gems from the '70s, he actually made some nods to the influence of German cinema.

Pulp dumps on IB

without Pitt, IB is nothing more than an itchy and scratchy cartoon, with such great tarantino dialogue about .... strudel??? WTF?

Really?

Get some shit for claiming Pulp Fiction was better than IB? Pulp is worlds better. Though his films are fun, he hasn't come close to Pulp since

Good for them.

It was a quality film and deserved the attention and I'm sure the dumbass Weinstein's needed the hit.

It's great to see Quentin doing good but I have to agree that it was not his best movie. To me Pulp is still king.

Pulp fiction only cost $8M though, as opposed to Basterd's 70; profit margin is a little different... BUT the film is a success, so good on you Quentin!

Congrats T!!

That's good news, he was super pumped for this film and it all worked out. I LOVE the scene where David Bowe's song kicks in and Shossana is in the red dress. BRILLIANT. Check my review of it here at Sick Picks [link]
