Jai Courtney is confirmed as Kyle Reese in Terminator: Genesis

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD and JACK REACHER star Jai Courtney has secured the role of Kyle Reese for Paramount’s reboot of The Terminator franchise, TERMINATOR: GENESIS. Originally played by Michael Biehn in director James Cameron‘s 1984 film (and a brief cameo in TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY), Reese is the father of John Connor, who would become the leader of future resistence in the war against the machines. Courtney joins the already cast Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as the grown-up John Connor, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular Terminator.

TERMINATOR: GENESIS is being directed by THOR: THE DARK WORLD’s Alan Taylor. No plot details have been revealed as of yet, but the new film has been tapped as the first in a trilogy. So far, the casting has been interesting and I think Courtney will do just fine in the role. I think his best role to date was as the villain in JACK REACHER, so I’m basing my approval on that. It’s hard to get too excited over another Terminator, though, as I think many have grown weary of the franchise. However, I’m always open to being surprised.

TERMINATOR: GENESIS hits theaters on July 1, 2015.
