James Wan announces start of Aquaman production with Instagram pic

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

The DCEU is really starting to take shape now, with us seeing the glory of Wonder Woman in one month before she fights some Parademons alongside Batman (Ben Affleck), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) in November. Then Aquaman himself gets his own movie next year, and director James Wan just posted a photo commencing the start of their underwater shenanigans.

Going under the production name AHAB, principal photography on AQUAMAN began yesterday, and the pic Wan posted looks like they’re kicking things off in some sort of submarine. The Bat-marine, perhaps??

Momoa won’t be alone on this solo adventure, with actress Amber Heard showing off her own hero-in-training videos all the time for her role as Queen Mera. Patrick Wilson will also be in attendance as Orm, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Yahya Abdul-Mateen as the villain Black Manta and the one and only Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus. A great cast to have unda-da-sea. Water joke!

Aquaman is often the butt of many jokes in the comic book world, what with his powers of having conversations with fish. But Momoa in the role is certainly solidifying the character as a hero that’s not to be messed with, and who could easily eat your heart out if he wanted to. We’ll see him in action in November, but he’ll be in less water and more riding on the Batmobile.

AQUAMAN swims into theaters December 21, 2018.
