J.J. Abrams does have another Cloverfield movie in mind

You never know when a film in the CLOVERFIELD family is going to come around and just spring up out of nowhere into a movie theater. For years, there had been talk about if a CLOVERFIELD sequel would ever materialize with all the creative forces of the original monster movie off doing other things… and then somehow 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE was shot under the radar and will be out in a few short weeks to somehow presumably connect to that first film. But if J.J. Abrams had his druthers, the CLOVERFIELD legacy wouldn’t stop there at two films. There seems to be more CLOVERFIELD Universe to expand upon.

In any interview with EW, Abrams refused to reveal how they all tie together, but he did shed some light on the fact that there is a third idea floating around out there that they’d like to do.

I think [categorizing them] would be presumptuous, because we’re talking about this movie and comparing it to CLOVERFIELD, but I would be lying if I didn’t say there was something else that, if we’re lucky enough to do it, could be really cool that connects some stories.

That doesn’t mean CLOVERFIELD 3 or MISSION: CLOVERFIELD or whatever the hell they’re going to call that other picture is an absolute or a certainty yet. A lot of the future of all things CLOVERFIELD is very much one step at a time, which means, if you want more, you’re going to have to support 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE and give them no choice but to keep going.

This is just this movie, and it’s only two films that we’re talking about right now. There is something else that we’d like to do, and hopefully we’ll get a shot.

I’m hoping 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE delivers as it certainly has me as intrigued as the first CLOVERFIELD did walking into the theater. If it does, then the stories will flow like wine. Sounds good to me.

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE opens on March 11.
