Lena Headey & Juno Temple are Crooks in Mickey Keating’s new movie

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

One of my favorite current horror movie directors out there is Mickey Keating. From his films such as CARNAGE PARK, POD, DARLING, and the recently released PSYCHOPATHS, to his Shudder series THE CORE, Keating is always someone I keep an eye out for in the headlines.

And speaking of Mickey Keating, today we have word that his next film CROOKS has snagged its leading ladies. Yes, Juno Temple (HORNS) and Lena Headey (GAME OF THRONES, DREDD) will be heading Keating's new film, along with Mark Kassen.

Kassen:

I couldn’t be prouder to be making another film with Mickey. What he’s been able to do in creating special, enigmatic and empowering female characters in genre films has really grown to another level of scope and ambition in Crooks.

The movie is set in sin city in 1968, where

a pair of hustlers, Johnny, played by Kassen and Faye, played by Temple, rob the decaying Moonlight Casino. Faye double crosses Johnny and takes off with the money and is soon pursued by the oldest and deadliest assassin in town. Worse still, Faye meets Blanche, played by Headey, a friendly but crazy waitress, at a truck stop.

Celluloid Dreams President Hengameh Panahi:

Crooks is a contemporary take on the heist genre: Mickey understands that audiences today are smart, selective and know cinema. His distinctive sharp style revitalizes iconic imagery in this tale of murder and madness infused by vintage songs. Crooks will be a fun ride.

Kassen and his company Like Minded Entertainment have teamed with Celluloid Dreams and Monte Rosso Productions to co-finance the Las Vegas-set hustler drama with Iliana Nikolic, Kassen, and Alexander Kushaev producing. The film begins shooting this summer.
