Leonardo Da Vinci: Action Hero?

03.11.2010

I understand that movie properties are hard to come by these days, and we’re running out of board games and toys to make movies out of, but I’m a bit hesitant about this growing new trend of plucking figures from history and fictionalizing their lives so they’re more exciting.

This was done to some extent with Guy Ritchie’s SHERLOCK HOLMES (though to be fair, his life was mostly fictional to begin with) and then it was announced a MARCO POLO action-adventure movie was coming. Now who’se next? Why Leonardo Da Vinci of course!

If you’ve played Assassin’s Creed 2, you’ll realize it was enough of a stretch to imagine Da Vinci as a supplier of weapons tech for a secret society of assassins, but now, Warner Bros. wants to make the man himself an action hero, with a story that’s INDIANA JONES meets NATIONAL TREASURE meets well, THE DA VINCI CODE. Heat Vision explains:

"Da Vinci is best known as the painter behind "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper," though he also was an inventor, engineer, architect, mathematician among many other occupations. The project re-imagines Da Vinci as a member of a secret society who falls headlong into a supernatural adventure that pits the man against Biblical demons in a story involving secret codes, lost civilizations, hidden fortresses and fallen angels."

You know what? I say go for it. A supernatural action adventure set in the 15th century could be pretty cool, and this plot does mean SOMEone will have to write an original story for it, even if the character comes with a bit of backstory already. This actually could turn out to be a lot of fun in the right hands.

Extra Tidbit: And yes, I do believe in casting Megan Fox as his super hot sidekick, Mona Lisa.

This sounds pretty badass to be honest. Its pretty much my favorite things about history all balled into a great movie.

Come on I could see DaVinci as an action hero. Speaking as someone who is an immense admirer of the man, I have to say he was and continues to be a visionary. Aside from being an amazing artist, he was also said to have many lovers, was an orphan, a world renowned freelancer, loved war, invented a bunch of war weapons, and was practically Bruce Wayne. I mean I could see a fictional re-working of his story. It could be fun.

Also in one of the many interesting stories he painted an angel in

Also in one of the many interesting stories he painted an angel in one of his paintings and caused a more experienced painter to completely quit out of jealousy and retreat to sculptures. DaVinci was an astounding individual.

take my advice

This movie will be good as long as Leonardo Di Caprios drives a Lambourgini and has a sick heat seeking rocket launchers and many sweet fucking proximity mines. Then it will be sweet as these movies that are like a pressing on a spot between my balls and my anus as I have cum awesome [link]

Sherlock Homes?

I'm going to ignore the fact that you said "Mostly Fictional" with mostly doesn't make any sense and just defend Guy Ritchie by saying it amazes me how many people have never read the Holmes stories. Ritchie's version is more accurate than any film adaptation to date. It's all those old films that have Sherlock as some well dressed proper english man that have it wrong. In the books Holmes is a sarcastic cocaine addicted slummer, who can barely keep Watson as a friend do to his gambling habits

I'm tired of Ritchie's Holmes not getting any love becuz ppl think his version is ridiculous. It's actually spot on to the books.

meh...

it will be interesting to watch. and since they are fictionalizing him, i'm sure they'll cast some hot female as a love interest, and ignore the fact that da vinici was a fan of the boys.

Go for it. Da Vinci is interesting as is, but imagine the crazy conspiracy theories this movie will make up and the new urban legends we can look forward to.

How is Sherlock Holmes "Mostly Fictional"?

That's like saying mice are usually smaller than people.

Make Da Vinci an action man? Why not. A blue bandana would be a bit much, mind.

Doyle's inspiration for Holmes was a guy named Dr. Joseph Bell who had similar smarts, so there's at least a tiny bit of a real guy in there somewhere.
