Men in Black/Jump Street crossover moving ahead at Sony with a new title

When the end credits of 22 JUMP STREET rolled, I'm sure most of us wondered how in the hell they could do a sequel following that madness. I mean, would they just roll with whatever plot was already stated, or do their own thing? It's been rumored for a while now that the Jump Street team might meet the Men in Black. Last month we heard that this was the real deal, and now we have confirmation straight from Sony at CinemaCon; MIB 23 is a go!

Admittedly, I think the title is pretty clever, having worked in the JUMP STREET progression and MIB. As of now, original JUMP STREET directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord are staying on as producers. Last we heard, James Bobin (ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, MUPPETS MOST WANTED) was set to direct. I think we can expect Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum to return, but Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones seems unlikely. Still, if Sony were to rope them in, I'd say they have a crossover that most audiences are willing to see! Hell, I was on board with the idea since day one!

The problem I have with this idea is that both franchises have different comedic styles. The Jump Street franchise is very self-referential, while the Men in Black franchise straddles the line between comedy and serious science fiction (admittedly leaning way more towards the comedy side). So in order for this to work they're going to force the Jump Street style of comedy onto the Men in Black franchise, which - while it may be funny and make a lot of money - will effectively dilute the Men in

This sounds like a terrible idea to me.

Awesome. That's all I have to say. This is original. I prefer originality over pumping out mediocre, carbon copy franchise sequels.

This is such a strange team up, looks like Sony is really scrapping the bottom of the barrel for story ideas, and they need some kind of cross-over.

If they somehow get Jones/Smith to come back, this will HAVE to be PG-13, which will really cut the balls off the Jump Street side.
If it was R, they could possibly salvage it if they had a really funny/violent script.
I guess it depends on how much they wanna spend on it.

This crossover sounds awful, not sure what the point of it all is. I'm think the same with @ JSprar down there, there's going to be some ridiculous twist.

The concept seems unique and quite possibly a worthy follow-up to three great comedies (21, 22 Jump Street, and MIB). It would be awesome if Smith and Jones at least showed up for a cameo.

This actually sounds pretty awful. I would have rather have seen 23 Jump Street with both characters going undercover as teachers this time around and to complete the circle of starting from high school to college to finally becoming professors.

As nuts as this concept is, the comedic possibilities are endless but only if Will and Tommy return along with all the JS cast.

I know the twist...

The whole movie will be a dream or a stoner induced hallucination and the credits show us what was really happening when Tatum and Hill are fighting aliens, they are really wrestling naked guys.

So it's going to be an absurdist action-comedy with a pair of down-to-business Men in Black (probably one being a woman), and Tatum and Hill, and they'll all be getting to the bottom of a drug ring that somehow features aliens.

It could work, or it could be spectacularly stupid. Probably the latter.
