It happens a lot when up-and-coming actors are featured in a franchise prior to their newfound star status. And when those actors strike it big, studios usually find a door to capitalize on it. Jennifer Lawrence was part of an ensemble when she starred in X-Men: First Class. After she became the face of The Hunger Games and an Oscar winner, naturally she became a bigger focus in the sequels X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. In 2012, a fresh-faced Brie Larson co-starred in the comedy adaptation of 21 Jump Street as a high school student and love interest to star Jonah Hill.

According to ComingSoon.net, Sony is developing a spin-off of their 21 Jump Street franchise that is aiming to be bringing Larson back as her character, Molly Tracey. Larson has recently been seen as the gun-toting, Belgian Ale-drinking Tess in Fast X and will also be returning as Captain Marvel in the upcoming MCU movie, The Marvels. So, the Scott Pilgrim actress has been keeping her action chops sharp enough for a new turn as Tracey as she will likely be following the lead of her former undercover classmate.

This bit of news comes from industry insider Daniel Richtman, and as of now, the details of the project are not known outside of Larson’s involvement. Sony has been flirting with continuing the Jump Street franchise in some fashion despite the meta-joke at the end of 22 Jump Street which saw a succession of sequels that put Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s cop characters in a variety of new undercover scenarios. There was the popular rumor that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were working on a Jump Street crossover with the Men in Black series. Sony would eventually attempt to spin that off with Men in Black: International, which didn’t take off. Then, it was said that Sony was planning a reboot in 2018 with Rodney Rothman directing Tiffany Haddish and Awkwafina in the lead roles.

Nothing is confirmed, and this is only to be taken as a rumor in the meantime. In addition to The Marvels, Larson will likely be seen reprising her Fast & Furious character in the second part, Fast X – Part 2, and she will be joining her former Scott Pilgrim co-stars in a reunion as the original cast will return to their roles in voiceovers for the Scott Pilgrim anime series, as well as a new AppleTV+ series, Lessons in Chemistry, this October.
