Yesterday Anthony Mackie called CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR a "stupendous ride," and while speaking with iamROGUE, the actor shared some more thoughts on the THE WINTER SOLDIER sequel/AVENGERS 3.8.

Anthony Mackie says he had no clue Falcon would return in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR until he got a call from his manager:

When we finished Cap 2 I asked and begged to come back, literally. So I found out when everybody else did. I got a call from my manager. He said, "They're going to put you in Cap 3." It’s always a surprise with Marvel, man. If you are not one of those like Thor or Cap, then you have no idea. The only person that had an early version of the script and read the outline was Chris Evans. I talk to him all the time because we are good friends and he would always say, "Man, the movie is going to be good." I'm like, am I in it? He would say, "It's going to be a big movie." So he would never tell me if I was in it or not. Even he keeps secrets. It's a dirty business.

Mackie has read Marvel's Civil War series, but he isn't sure how much of the comics will make it into the movie:

You know, I'm not sure how close it will stay because I haven't read anything. I just found out literally this week. I haven't gotten a script or an outline. I don't know how much of it I'm going to be in. I have no idea how they are going to use me. But you know, the Civil War comic book, there is so much there. I don't know how they are going to condense it and make it into a movie because it is a civil war. It's epic! Look at the way it's going now when they announced Phase 3, with Black Panther and Dr. Strange coming into the fold. I have no idea what they are going to do with this movie. I just know that Cap 3 has to be better than Cap 2. So I know Cap 3 is going to be mind-blowing.

The actor goes on to say he was very pumped to hear Black Panther will be in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR:

I was very, very excited. When we were shooting Cap 2 I would always have conversations with them about Black Panther because I wanted to stress the importance of that character to the movie going populous. I couldn't be happier that they cast Chadwick (Boseman). He's a remarkable young man. I've known him off and on for over ten years now. I first met him in '98 at Howard (University) down in D.C. I've only known him from a far. But the more I've heard of him from people who are in his inner circle, the more I've been proud of the fact that someone who did the work, and did their due diligence, is being rewarded at a rate like this in his career because he truly deserves it.

On which side he thinks Falcon will choose in CIVIL WAR:

Listen; you would never meet anybody that doesn't want to hangout with Tony Stark. Tony's the man! I have no idea. I have no idea how they are going to use me. I have no idea how they are going to introduce all of those characters.

Anthony Mackie also says he thinks Robert Downey Jr. appearing in the film is a big deal:

It's huge! It's funny, I've met Robert a few times and I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know what he would be like because he is such a mega star and has had so many phases of his career. I have to say, he couldn't be more of a down to Earth, fun to be around, cool, smart person. Every time you talk to him, it's just mind-blowing the stories he tells, and the way he looks at this Iron Man phenomenon and how it's helping him in the third phase of his career to open doors to do projects that he has wanted to do forever but couldn't. The great thing about these Marvel movies is that everybody in the world sees them. Not just everybody in California and New York, everybody in the world! That’s something that an actor can only dream of having that opportunity.

Mackie has his fingers crossed Falcon will have a new costume in CIVIL WAR:

I want my bird, man. I want my bird! The thing is, you know I've been emailing with people over at Marvel. I've putting it out there in the ethos that I'm going to have a new and improved costume and come out all flashy in spandex. So I'm hoping that I get a new and improved costume. That's my whole thing. I've just been saying it, hoping that they'll read it and say, "Alright, we have to give Anthony a new costume." Please, dress me up in spandex!

And finally, on if Falcon will appear in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON:

I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope. They're doing reshoots and that's why I'm letting them know I'm available. So whatever weekend they want me there, I'll fly myself out and shoot whatever scene they want me in. Even if it's like, "Oh man, it's Iron Man and Hulk." But I heard today in one of the interviews that someone thought I was in Ant-Man. I hope so! I hope I'm in Ant-Man. I hope I'm in Hulk 3, I hope I'm in Thor 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Me and Groot can boogie!

Mackie seems to really love his Falcon character, and I'm very happy he's so excited to be a part of the MCU. It'll be hard for the Russo Brothers to top THE WINTER SOLDIER, but I'm glad they're returning for the sequel, and it'll be interesting to see what they will do with a big screen version of Marvel's Civil War comics.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR will be in theaters on May 6, 2016.

For comparison sake. check out Mackie's enthusiasm and how he is promoting his work with great joy and fun. Makes you want to see it. Now check out ANYONE from Fox's Fantastic Four reboot. You don't get even a hint of this joy and enthusiasm from anybody involved in the project. Fox is so utterly ashamed of the project that they haven't even let out any production stills, teasers or trailers. Fox hears all the negative buzz about their film, and they allow a few tepid comments about how it

You get through Mackie a true conviction that this is awesome. he couldn't be happier being in this role. And you know what? Fans couldn't be happier either.

This guy is probably the most genuine guy Marvel has ever cast. His excitement about every little detail when it comes to his rle and the direction the MCU is going is frankly a breathe of fresh air. To have actors express genuine happiness, not fake promotional happiness, seems to be such a rare thing. Yet when you read every interview with Mackie about the Falcon or MCU in general, you can't help but smile because you just know he is like a kid in a candy store with all of this. He is a real

Yet when you read every interview with Mackie about the Falcon or MCU in general, you can't help but smile because you just know he is like a kid in a candy store with all of this. He is a real comic book fan playing in a comic book world. He's living a dream and awfully happy to talk about it. The funny thing is as much as I like Bosemen, I almost wish they cast Mackie as Black Panther. Why? Because it would give this guy a front and center role in his own series of movies, but also make it more likely for him to crossover into others. And man does he deserve to be in as much as possible with this attitude.

"Please, dress me up in spandex!"

This is exactly the right mindset for a comic book movie. Dude seems pretty genuine, glad to see his career taking off.

I doubt he'll end up in Avengers: AoU or Ant-Man. But it would be great if they could utilize him in other movies for phase 3 to flesh his character out more and then add him in for Avengers 3. I could see him showing up in Black Panther, there is an iteration of Falcon where he's an explorer and into seeing different places of the world. If they could factor that into his character it could be easy to have him show up in Wakanda.

I'd say let's get him his own movie. But I don't think

I'd say let's get him his own movie. But I don't think there is a Falcon solo comic (unless you count the current Captain America), so it might be a hard sell for a solo flick. The character has always been well utilized as a lead member of Avengers. So if nothing else, get him onto the permanent roster for Avenger movies like Renner with Hawkeye.

Wow, I never know that Anthony Mackie is very energetic about these projects. I'm very glad to hear it. But he's right on one thing though - Civil War series is huge and not all the major characters belong to Marvel. I hope we'd get some characters from other studios somehow. That'd be great.

Mackie

The Marvel Cinematic Universe could not have cast a better person for Falcon, Mackie is so positive and full of energy and enthusiasm and love for being a part of this. This is why people are so impressed with the casting Marvel has done. RDJ as Stark, Hemsworth as Thor, Evans as Cap. They hit it out of the park again and again getting JUST the right guy. People are convinced that Spader is perfect for Ultron. Those folks at Marvel have to know that Mackie is a huge asset for them. I

Everything is coming up roses for MCU.

Love the guy's enthusiasm for the character and his place in the Marvel Universe. Have been a big fan of the guy since Half Nelson, so I am glad to see him finally getting a big break with films of this caliber.
