New French trailer for Gaspar Noe's Enter the Void may cause epileptic seizures

04.15.2010

Say what you will about Gaspar Noe (IRREVERSIBLE), but I strongly feel the man's talent and visual acumen cannot be denied. And nowhere is that talent more evident than in this new French trailer for his "psychedelic melodrama" ENTER THE VOID. I'm extremely interested in seeing what Noe does with this.

The video below is slightly NSFW, but the film's visuals cut and pulsate so much that no one at work will probably catch on. Still, just letting you know.

ENTER THE VOID has been picked up for U.S. distribution by IFC Films, but a release date has yet to be announced. It will be released in France on May 5th.

Synopsis: Death takes one man on a journey that is by turns beautiful and terrifying in this feature from writer and director Gaspar Noe, who describes it as "a psychedelic melodrama." Oscar (Nathaniel Brown) is a small time drug dealer who sells his wares at a club in Tokyo called "The Void." In the midst of a deal that goes sour, Oscar is shot dead, and finds himself crossing from one plane of existence to the next. When he was younger, Oscar made a pledge to his younger sister Linda (Paz de la Huerta) to always look after her, and as his soul leaves his body, the spirit is led on a journey through Tokyo, past traditional consciousness and into the moment of human creation as he struggles to be reunited with Linda, who now works as an exotic dancer.

Extra Tidbit: I'm also extremely interested in the super sexy and not safe for work Paz de la Huerta.

Looks really interesting, kind of reminds me of the "Smack My Bitch Up" Prodigy video.

Excited now.

Wow, I'm excited about this film now. I'm sold. This looks like another great project for Gasper NOe. This is something that will stand away from our usual Hollywood-standard adaptation like "Invisible" and "The Lovely Bones" as this actually looks like it has significant work effort put behind a good concept. I love the cinematography as it gets down and dirty with the grittiness of that kind of reality. Noe is a director who really knows how to shoot from the POV of the character; sound,

I'm really glad we're seeing more works breakthgouth with artistic talent than the usual blockbuster we've been getting. This has "great film" written all over it. This is finally an interesting, althought not new, take on crossovers. Can't wait!

The film is amazing. I've seen it & loved it, and no @polarboy, it's not a "film-school" type of film. The cinematography is fantastic, and the whole story is completely messed up (in a good way).

Sorry, but I'm not sold on this one. Looks like one of those artsy-fartsy "film-school" student projects. Very amateurish. I mean it's pretty stereotypical don't you think? Drugs, girls, sex, guns...and in the midst there's this guy who's got a pledge to his stripper sister. That just screams "final term student project" to me. Best recent "crossing over" film I've seen is The Lovely Bones.
