New Line snags the rights to make a Fruit Ninja movie, for some reason

Fruit Ninja Movie

If you're anything like me, I know you've long fantasized about a feature-film based on one of the biggest iOS games of all time, and no, I'm not talking about Angry Birds, we've already done that, do try to catch up. After the box-office success of THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE, studios have been looking at other properties to adapt which people likely associate with sitting on the toilet. Sounds like a solid plan.

THR reports that New Line Cinema has snagged the rights to make a feature film based on Fruit Ninja, the iOS game in which you slice falling fruit while trying to avoid slicing falling bombs. J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani (HOW TO SURVIVE A GARDEN GNOME ATTACK) have already been hired to pen the script for FRUIT NINJA which will apparently "revolve around a team of misfits who are recruited to become Fruit Ninjas in order to save the world." I wish I could say that I was surprised that we've stooped so low as to adapt Fruit Ninja into a live-action family comedy, but it's certainly not the most questionable project in development that I can think of. I'm looking at you Emoji movie.

I would prefer a bloody R Rated version instead. Raise the bar, take a stupid app and make a super violent film from it.

A live-action family comedy? Did one writer dare/wager another into doing this?
I can understand it being Animation about a guy fed-up with his Ninja Skills and wanting to do more than sneak-around and steal stuff, decides to pack up and leave to pursue his true passion of being the best fruit-chef where he helps a struggling restuarant (run by the obligatory comic-relief) become the best in town due to his high precision cutting, slicing & dicing skillz which off-course draws the attention

I can understand it being Animation about a guy fed-up with his Ninja Skills and wanting to do more than sneak-around and steal stuff, decides to pack up and leave to pursue his true passion of being the best fruit-chef where he helps a struggling restuarant (run by the obligatory comic-relief) become the best in town due to his high precision cutting, slicing & dicing skillz which off-course draws the attention of the local mob/yakuza / bully who wants our protagonist to work for him instead and is now torn between 'pursuing higher sucess at all costs' and 'not forgetting his humble beginnings' cliché until a confrontation forces him to fight using improvised fruit weapons and they all lived happily ever after having learnt a valuable lesson.

As for a live-action comedy, this is something the guys at Happy Madison can easily do.
