New Wolfman poster beautifully painted by Basil Gogos!

01.14.2010by:

Basil Gogos is the legendary artist responsible for some of the imagery you most closely associate with the Universal Monsters legacy. He often painted the covers for "Famous Monsters of Filmland" magazine and illustrated Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, King Kong, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and, of course, The Wolfman. Those smarty pants at Universal had the bright idea to commission Gogos to create a new piece of work inspired by their upcoming Benicio Del Toro flick THE WOLFMAN.

CHUD has an exclusive look at the new Gogos painting as well as a brief interview with the man. I'm sure a lot of you are asking how you can get your grubby little mitts on one of these badboys and I have that answer for you as well. Head to the WOLFMAN Facebook page and download the Lunar Phases widget. There's a funky little button on there that will allow you to enter the sweepstakes to win one of the very rare limited edition copies signed by Gogos himself! Click below to head to CHUD to see the poster in all its glory.

Extra Tidbit: I still blame anything that happened on New Years Eve on that damn full moon.

I am a fan of Basil Gogos. I got to meet him a couple of years ago and he was a exremely nice guy. Turns out our families are from the same part of Greece. Anyway, this is in his "Famous Monsters" style that he is known for. I dig it!

I was expecting something amazing going by this article. The painting isn't that great, really. I don't doubt Gogos' skills, but he made a "miss" with this one.

Ehhhh

While the color and texture work is pretty great there are some serious structural flaws in those hands and that bottom jaw...and is he emerging from fog...attacking? It's not really clear. Not to criticize a classic artist, but this is in need of a second draft.
