Disney gets going on their own live-action Snow White

Now that there are two big-budget live-action versions of the classic fairy tale SNOW WHITE racing each other to the theaters, what we really need is… another one.

Disney is pushing forward with THE ORDER OF THE SEVEN, their martial arts variation of the story. Commercial director Michael Gracey will put the heroine into action.

The project, originally titled SNOW AND THE SEVEN, has actually been in the works for years (and often rewritten). It started out as an “East meets West” take on the tale, set in a British colony in China during the late 19th century and following a young woman believed by Shaolin monks to hold the key to the future within her deathblow-dealing hands.

Heat Vision says: “While the project is set in China, the warriors will be from locales near (the U.S.) and far (Russia), and each warrior will have a unique fighting style.”

Francis Lawrence (I AM LEGEND, CONSTANTINE) and kung fu maestro Woo-ping Yuen (THE MATRIX, IRON MONKEY) had each previously been attached to direct. TOY STORY 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt is the latest to take a stab at the script.

Meanwhile, Disney faces competition from SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN (due in June) and Relativity’s SNOW WHITE, hitting first in March.
