Official Avengers images offer a better look at Samuel L. Jackson's scars

Empire featured a few of these images in their newest issue, but the online scans left a lot to be desired in terms of quality. Now, Marvel has released them officially via their site.

Check 'em out below.

Nothing too special, but enough to warrant a little attention. The close up of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is pretty cool, although I feel like they went just a tad overboard on the scar make-up. The comic series with Bad Motherf*cker Nick Fury (The Ultimates) never explains how he got the scar/lost the eye, but I'm leaning towards "fell in tiger pit at zoo on a school field trip" or "firecracker to the face."

The other notable image is Tony Stark/Iron Man and Bruce Banner/Hulk, looking intriguingly at something while talking to one another (Probably Black Widow's obnoxiously fine ass). Of all the cast members, Mark Ruffalo has been the most difficult for me to accept. I'm still team Ed Norton, but it's too late now.

Really, the two of them look like they're about to hit the club. Ol' Banner has come a long way from the nerdy scientist role... Anyways, that's just some banter smack talk, because I'm beyond stoked for THE AVENGERS. I don't care if Bruce Banner looks like he belongs at the Night of the Roxbury or if Nick Fury lost a scrap with Battle Cat, this movie is tops for me.

THE AVENGERS will Hulk Out (or Out Hulk, finally) on May 4th, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: In the current comics continuity, the alleged son of Nick Fury is being introduced, who is half black, half white and about to lose an eye so that he can take over for his dad and look more like the Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury. No, I'm not joking.

cool pics...one of the reasons I've heard for the scars are actually done by wolverine during an confrontation when SHEILD was transporting or capturing wolverine during the weapon x program which makes sense with the three scars.

That Dr. should be fired or at least sued for malpractice for that stitch job...I hope I never end up in his office. Looks like he originally stitched the eye patch to Fury's face!

I'm not an Ultimates fan at all but didn't Wolverine slash out Fury's eye??? If that's the case then featuring the three claw scar is a great nod to a shared universe and gives Logan a defacto cameo.

Wolverine actually saved his life, he didn't cut his eye out. That would've been bad ass if he had though. Still, the connection is there, so in many ways they are linked. Although, now we're talking two separate universes and that just goes down a comic geek rabbit hole...
