Pacino and De Niro

I really didn’t think that I could top the last story I wrote about the new TRANSFORMERS trailer. But by the beard of Zeus, this story just might have that one beat! Apparently Bobby De Niro and Al Pacino will star together for the first time since they went head to head in HEAT, in the movie RIGHTEOUS KILL. Jon Avnet (who Pacino starred in 88 MINUTES for) will direct the movie, which sees the two legends play detectives on the trail of a serial killer. That is of course purely incidental, since I could have written that they play two surgical electives on the trail of an imperial Steve Miller and it would still be awesome.

“This was one of the hardest deals we’ve done,” producer Randall Emmett said. “When we realised we had a chance to get them together we leapt at it.”

Yeah no shit you did! This is maybe the deal of the decade! These two guys are amazing, it’s almost unfair to have them both in the same movie. I was going to say something about Avnet not having the best resume, but to be honest, it probably won’t even matter. People usually ask you whose movies you like best, because it’s taken as basic postulate that you’re never gonna see these two in the same movie again. Personally, I lean towards Pacino. ANY GIVEN SUNDAY is one of my all-time favourites and the speech he gives at the end gets me every time. God I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
