Red Dawn-ish Aussie movie Tomorrow When the War Began gets more tomorrows

I haven’t seen the movie or read the original source material, so I can’t say for certain if the Aussie action movie TOMORROW, WHEN THE WAR BEGAN is a complete “ripoff” of RED DAWN… but it does seem awfully familiar.

The movie (based on a series of bestselling books by John Marsden) is about a group of teens who engage in guerrilla tactics against a foreign army invading their land. And the first one is such a hit in its home country, they’re apparently already working on sequels.

According to Heat Vision, the current plan is to get writer-director Stuart Beattie (a Hollywood writer/script doctor known for COLLATERAL, G.I. JOE and others) at work on a pair of sequels, which will be done back-to-back with the original cast.

The way things are going, we’ll see this and its sequels in the US before an official release of the actual RED DAWN remake, which is still in limbo due to MGM’s ongoing financial problems. You can check out the TOMORROW trailer below.
