Reitman, Clooney reteam for Vertigo 3D

04.01.2010

After being nominated for Best Director at the Oscars for his last two films, Jason Reitman could pretty much have his pick of projects at any studio in Hollywood. Which makes this decision even stranger. Reitman has signed a deal to write and direct VERTIGO 3D, a remake of Hitchcock's 1958 classic, which will reteam him with UP IN THE AIR star George Clooney. Wait, what?! Yeah, you read that correctly...

Clooney will play the role made famous by Jimmy Stewart in the original; a detective who becomes strangely obsessed with the woman he's hired to trail and the sudden appearance of her doppelganger. In talks to join Clooney is Anne Hathaway though it's reportedly very early in negotiations.

While the original was more a psychological thriller, Reitman is looking to add some action sequences to, as he puts it, "make it more relatable to modern audiences." Reitman, who was quietly working on the script during the UP IN THE AIR press tour, will also be shooting the film in 3D and hopes to use the effect to more effectively convey the acrophobia of the lead character (think the Hitchcock zoom in 3D).

VERTIGO 3D is expected to be Clooney's next film after he wraps the Alexander Payne project THE DESCENDANTS. Universal Pictures and Paramount will be splitting the production costs with Paramount releasing domestically and Universal taking international territories.

Is this the worst remake news since Michael Bay talked about ROSEMARY'S BABY? Is this the worst use of 3D you've ever heard of??

Despite the foolishness of BrokenDreamer, and his/her seemingly inability to understand the point of a joke, I do hope the rest of us get it. While it wasn't super, it was better than last year's, imo.

Dear BrokenDreamer, learn how to laugh and get your head out of your ass.

I dont get the backlash on the April Fools Articles... is not an April Fools Joke supposed to be a believable lie that gets people going "What the fuck, that shit cant be fucking serious"... and in that vein, this was a successful Joke as it wasnt so super outlandish!

But i guess in the grand scheme, no April Fools Day joke will ever compare to the "EIGHT" sequel to Se7en article from a few years ago! That one was quite amazing!

Also there was one about Keanu Reeves coming out of the

Also there was one about Keanu Reeves coming out of the closet i believe that was awesome!

I knew it

It was easy to figure out which articles were fake when you look at the source of the article and see "joblo.com." If it were real, there would probably be an outside source to back it (unless the outside source was, in fact, an April Fools joke.)

However, I don't get this "joke." Why would Jason Reitman remake Vertigo, in 3D no less? Reitman has a history of dramedies, with a concerted effort toward realism. This fake film is so out of context to his type of filmmaking that it makes no

However, I don't get this "joke." Why would Jason Reitman remake Vertigo, in 3D no less? Reitman has a history of dramedies, with a concerted effort toward realism. This fake film is so out of context to his type of filmmaking that it makes no sense for him to do it. When has he ever done an action scene? When has he ever made a film with 3D spectacle? I guess it is meant to be funny (I am sorry that I am dissecting your April Fool's joke), but it is so inconsistent with his filmography. Reitman's films are mostly dialogue and moments of "real" emotional content. They can also be funny. I got the impression that you don't like Jason Reitman from previous comments, so maybe that is why you made this about him, but this does not sound like a Jason Reitman film. Maybe you didn't like Juno (and Diablo Cody's hip language), but, in my opinion, the two movies that he wrote--Thank You For Smoking and Up In The Air--were both fantastic films. Sorry about criticizing your April Fool's joke, but, well, I felt like doing it.

ugh - seriously? You took an unfunny article, and steamrolled it with a mirthless logic nitpick. Part of my soul died whilst reading your treatise.

Lighten up dude! The joke here, as stated by saying "...makes this decision even stranger", is that Reitman HASN'T done anything like this, and remaking it in 3D is simply goofy as hell.

How the individual writer feels about Reitman seems irrelevant, because the whole point of this article was to make it seem like he was doing something he had never done!

Goddamn fool, can't even take a joke. Get your head out of your ass, and lighten the fuck up.
