Roberto Orci says first draft of Star Trek 3 script is finished

08.18.2014

Roberto Orci is currently attached to several different projects, but in my opinion his biggest upcoming movie is definitely STAR TREK 3. Orci will be making his directorial debut with the next STAR TREK flick, and some are worried about him taking over for J.J. Abrams. We know STAR TREK 3 will likely be set in deep space, and now we also know the first draft of the script has been completed.

Roberto Orci announced the news recently on TrekMovie's comments section, and the "p & m" Orci is referring to are his STAR TREK 3 co-writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

boborci: p & m & I wrote, "fade out" yesterday on first draft. things are moving...First draft is done.

Obviously Roberto Orci and company still have a ways to go before they start filming, but at least the first draft of the script is done. It also isn't expected to hit theaters for a couple of years, so they do have plenty of time to further work on the script for the next movie.

I'm not thrilled about Roberto Orci directing STAR TREK 3, but I'm not completely against it either. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach with the next movie, and hopefully Orci won't disappoint with his first film as a director.

STAR TREK 3 will likely be released sometime in 2016.

I have one thing to say

Hopefully this means, more McCoy, less Spock/Uhura Romance, and less Uhura in general. I loved both Star Trek movies but I hated how McCoy got moved to a side character to the romance bull crap. Star Trek was Kirk, Spock, and McCoy (they are best friends) then Scotty and Sulu then Chekov and Uhura. The formula worked for a reason. I enjoyed Spock exploring his human side but come on the romance was garbage. Again, More McCoy!

Would have wanted to have seen Abrams finish his trilogy, but I have enough faith that this will turn out to be somewhat good. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be the 'Last Stand' of the franchise or 'Batman Forever'. The first two were excellent films, especially for people who aren't that big of Star Trek fans.

I didn't realise that Orci was one of the creators of Fringe. Guess after the terrible Spider-man movies I'll have to give him some points back for that because I really enjoyed that series. Some of it was beautifully done. Especially the whole father/son story between the Bishop's.

While there is a certain amount of nervousness and skepticism attached to a first time director, especially when it involves a beloved franchise such as Trek, I for one will stand behind Orci and wish him the best and hope that he delivers the goods.
And if he doesn't? well that's for another comment section!

I've gotten flack for it and I'll continue to get flack for it - Star Trek Into Darkness was my favourite summer blockbuster of last year.
