Ron Howard reportedly attached to direct Robert Downey Jr.’s Pinocchio

Robert Downey Jr.'s long-gestating PINOCCHIO flick may have finally found a director. Paul Thomas Anderson was the most recent filmmaker linked to the planned film, however he left the project back in November, and now The Tracking Board is reporting that Ron Howard is attached to direct the live-action movie.

According to the site, Howard and Brian Grazer will produce the Warner Bros. feature through their Imagine banner, alongside The Dan Jinks Company's Dan Jinks and Team Downey's Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey. The film has seen several writers come and go over the years, including Jane Goldman, Michael Mitnick, and Bryan Fuller, however Howard will more than likely want to bring in a new screenwriter or two to pen an updated draft of the script.

Although titled PINOCCHIO, the movie will actually "follow Geppetto as he sets out to find Pinocchio when he goes missing," with Downey playing the woodworker. Do you think the project will move forward with Howard directing?

Howard is currently doing post-production work on his third Tom Hanks-led Dan Brown adaptation INFERNO, which has been scheduled to open on October 14, 2016.
