Russell Crowe Ryan Gosling The Nice Guys Shane Black viral clips

In a year full of superhero throw-downs, Star Wars spin-off's, and ancient mutants destroying humanity, I'm thankful that I have a film like Shane Black's THE NICE GUYS to look forward to. The so-called "spiritual sequel" to Black's KISS KISS BANG BANG stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe as struggling private-eye Holland March and hired enforcer Jackson Healy respectively, "two working-class dudes who are forced to work together to solve the case of a missing girl and death of a porn star – an investigation that uncovers a surprising conspiracy with major ramifications for those in the highest positions of power." Combining dark humour and murder mystery wrapped up in a 1970's package, THE NICE GUYS looks like an absolute blast, but according to a pair of red-band viral clips, Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling aren't nearly as chummy as they'd like us to believe. Gasp!

Although this will be the first time that Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling have worked together, the pair would have discussed working on a project several years ago had that first meeting not turned into strange party. Russell Crowe explained the situation to Entertainment Weekly:

I said to him, ‘Do you want to get together, and have just dinner, you and your girlfriend, and me and my wife? Let’s keep it pretty intimate.’ And he agreed to that. So I told my wife, ‘We’re going to have dinner with Ryan on a particular night.’ The next thing, she’s invited, like, a dozen girlfriends to dinner. I’m like, ‘No, no, no! It’s just supposed to be the four of us!’ ‘Oh, he won’t mind!’ So, then, I thought, ‘Well, I can’t just have this room of women.’ So, I invited an equivalent amount of blokes, some other actors, RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan. So, Ryan thinks he’s coming to dinner with four people, walks into the room, and there’s, like, 24, 25 people. I could see him looking at me, going, ‘What happened here?’ I didn’t explain anything to him at the time. It wasn’t until later, on the set [of The Nice Guys], working together, when I said, ‘Oh, remember that night…?’”

THE NICE GUYS is set for a May 20, 2016 release.
