Russo Brothers tease the return of Mjolnir for Avengers: Infinity War

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

By now, we've all seen the amazing THOR: RAGNAROK trailer wherein Hela (Cate Blanchett) grips the God of Thunder's trusty hammer and then promptly shatters it into tiny, jagged pieces. Oof, what a blow to the Odison's confidence (and not to mention his manhood) that must have been. Now, with Thor's hammer being turned to nothing but magical chunks of debris, the question remains: What will our Asgardian hero wield now, and like Humpty Dumpty, will the pieces of Mjolnir ever be put back together again?

Thankfully, the Russo Brothers might have shed some light on Mjolnir's fate, as a behind-the-scenes photo on their Instagram account has revealed that yes, a weapon that looks very much like Mjolnir is alive and well for when AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR lands in theaters on May 4, 2018.

You can check out the photo for yourself right here:

The above image was apparently taken on a location shoot at Durhan Cathedral in England, and shows director Joe Russo gesturing while a nearby priest holds the famous hammer. The photo was posted with a single-word caption attached: "Worthy."

Okay, so what's the deal then? Does Thor (or someone else) assemble the pieces of the mighty hammer before the close of THOR: RAGNAROK? Is RAGNAROK director Taika Waititi inferring that Hela is worthy of possessing Mjolnir before she chooses to destroy it? Does an Asgardian blacksmith forge a new hammer for our hero in between the events of RAGNAROK and INFINITY WAR? I need answers, man! Give them to me! Gah! I hate playing the waiting game!

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR starring Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie will arrive in theaters on May 4, 2018. Until then, I'll just contemplate the possibilities and whine about them while getting paid to do so. Mwuahaha!
