Superman to appear in first two episodes of CW's Supergirl season two

06.06.2016

With all of DC's TV shows including a broader catalogue of characters in their shows, it seemed only a matter of time before Supergirl made the leap as well...in a single bound! Sorry. Couldn't help myself. Yes, with the popular show switching networks to the CW and already logging a crossover with The Flash, season two of Supergirl will introduce none other than the Son of Krypton himself...Superman. Supes will appear in the first two episodes of season two as both Superman and his alter ego, Clark Kent, to help out his cousin, Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl, as played by Melissa Benoist.

Supergirl's executive producer, Andrew Kreisberg had this to say in the announcement:

"Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!"

So, now the fervor over just who should play Superman in the series begins. Casting is still "underway" apparently, but fans have already taken to the InstaGoogleTweetFaceSpace with calls to resurrect previous "Superman" Brandon Routh and Tom Welling. It's highly unlikely we'll see Henry Cavill show up as the DCEU version, seeing as they have worked hard to keep the TV and Movie universes separate. Personally, I think they'll cast someone new that hovers in their late 20's to early 30's. I would be shocked if any of the prior actors who donned the cape showed up (what, no one wants Dean Cain back?), but hey, it wouldn't be the first or last time I've been shocked by a casting decision.

So, let's hear it. Who do YOU think should play the Blue Boy Scout in Supergirl Season 2?

Extra Tidbit: I love Melissa Benoist. That is all.

If they brought Tom Welling back as Superman, it might actually convince me to watch this.

Nuts in a bad way, or a good way. I thought he was awesome as Kal-El / Clark Kent and I think Michael Rosenbaum was the best Lex Luther to screen.

I may be in the minority but I would like Welling to come back as Superman for several reasons
1: Smallville can easily be an Alt Universe where Kara was Supergirl before he was Superman
2: We kinda got hosed on the last episode and now is a chance to have a proper 10 years in the making Tom Welling Superman
3: So many other Superman/Supergirl alumni have been back (Dean Cain, Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort) so why not get Welling back? He's at a better age now as well to portray a well

As much as Tom Welling would be a welcome to the world. I remember reading something about Welling stated that he never wanted to ever put on the suit. Even in the Smallville Finale it was all CG.

Didn't they use the suit from Superman Returns in the final episode? (Encased in Crystal). It probably didn't fit.

It doesn't seem like The Flash Finale..

is going to affect Arrow, so that would probably mean they will reverse that early in that season. Last I heard, Supergirl has one or two less episodes than the rest of the show, so maybe they fix the Flash timeline in the first or second episode and one of the residual things that changes when it's reset is that it puts her on earth 1.

Matt Bomer for sure. I doubt Welling would want to come back and if he were to, I feel like it would be too confusing since people would associate Smallvile along with all of the other current shows.

I know that this technically exists in like a parallel universe or something to The Flash, but with it switching to the CW, you better believe their going to find a way to make it part of the main Flash/Arrow/Legends of Tomorrow continuity which means there's no way in heck that Brandon Routh is playing Superman. It'd be cool to see Welling return to the role, but I think it's much more likely they'll just go with a new actor altogether.

Whatever, I get that I'm totally not the target audience for this, but from a writing and acting stand point I think that it's hands down better than either Arrow or Legends of Tomorrow, although Flash probably takes the cake. Also, unlike Arrow it at least makes a token attempt to be faithful ot the source material it claims to be based on. Seriously, I'd swear that the writers of Arrow just read the Wikipedia article on Green Arrow and decided to call that good.

I'm a Flash fan. Legends of Tomorrow fell off kind of midway for me. And Arrow is a total mess at this point. I liked the pilot and maybe the first six episodes of Supergirl, but it's gotten a little too cute for me. But that's just me.

I'm still flummoxed as to why there's a small platoon of Kryptonians running or flying around National City and no one thinks of calling Superman in...to at least backup Supergirl. Anyhoo, Routh would be a cool casting purely because he did play Superman...and also because he's in a parallel universe in the current show's continuity...but playing the Atom. I'm not sure how the latter would work - is it possible in the multiverse for a doppelganger to have a different identity (as in

Yep, he has been in the to play Supes for awhile, but he is too good for a TV version that is just a cameo so to speak.

Perhaps, but he did a cameo on "Glee". I think he could be up to it, as he is not more than a side player on the big screen usually.

So what if because of "Flashpoint" Routh is Superman not Atom.

Well it's definitely not going to be Brandon Routh since he's the Atom in Legends of Tomorrow which is now tied in with this.

Dean Cain is already on Supergirl. He's Kara's adoptive father.
