The Complete Star Wars Saga is coming to Blu-ray, buy it you will.

Jan. 6, 2011by: Niki Stephens

Own this you should. Boner you will have.

The day has finally arrived. The complete STAR WARS saga is coming to Blu-ray. There's just so much awesome in this news that I may spontaneously combust. That's right! Take your busted ass DVD collection and switch for a better quality picture. I will most likely keep my DVD copies for memories sake but I've still gotta get all six films on Blu-ray. It has been decided.

When can you purchase this delicious set? September. How much will it cost? $139.99 US/$179.99 CAN and the trilogy sets for $69.99 US/89.99 CAN. What happens if you don't buy it? Jar Jar Binks will come to your house, tie you up, scare your family, and annoy the shit out of you. My favorite part about the set is the fact that there are three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features.

Here are the pre-order links:

-STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE BOX SET

-STAR WARS: ORIGINAL TRILOGY

-STAR WARS: PREQUEL TRILOGY

Trailer for the Blu-rays below.

The funny part is that if they hadn't announced this, the fanboys would probably bitch and whine endlessly about NOT having the trilogy on Blu-Ray. Isn't consumer culture funny.

That being said, like the Blu-Ray Alien anthology, I might pick it up if the price were to come down a bit.

Fuck yes. Just pre-ordered mine (both trilogies...meh, I got a soft spot for the prequels).

It really doesn't bother me that the original trilogy is the special edition. I have that trilogy on Laserdisc and DVD so whatever. I just can't wait to see Star Wars in glorious high-def!!

Bonus

Aren't these supposed to have some never before released deleted scenes like Vader calling out to Luke in that Tattoine cave in the beginning of ROTJ that a bunch of nerds went nuts over last summer? I wonder what other scenes may be included? I just read the Making of ESB, and it sounds like several short sequences were cut out of the Hoth section at the beginning. It'll be cool to see some deleted scenes, but I won't buy this set for that. I'm sure the rare clips will end up online somewhere

Too bad this wasn't available when I was twelve. I'd have made my parents buy it for me. Now that I no longer enjoy Star Wars...meh.

Can honestly say idc too much. I'm all star warsed out. Every few years, Lucas releases a new set of the same films. Besides which, no one wants episode 1-3 anyways. Why anyone would want to waste their money on yet another release of the same six films, I will never understand. Besides, upconversions to Blu Ray are bad.

I'll buy the complete saga day 1! I don't get why people let a few changes in the Special Editions ruin the whole movie for them. They are the kind of whiners that give fanboys a bad name. Sit back, watch some lightsaber and space battles in high-def, and enjoy life.

I'll answer your question. Its because they're so distracting it takes you out of the viewing experience you remember. Some scenes are COMPLETELY new as well while the originals were removed. Thats why. So you enjoy your hi def life there kiddo.

Why the hate?!

I unabashedly will always love STAR WARS, Lucas can't ruin it for me. Hell, you don't even have to buy the prequels if you don't want to, yes it isn't the unadulterated Original Trilogy but it is still STAR WARS ... on Blu-ray!

This is a long time coming and at 9 months away this is like a pregnancy. I will patiently wait and gladly pick this up. This is STAR WARS ... this is more important than a baby.

I dont have blu-ray so I wont be purchasing this. But it does say "original" trilogy. If Lucasfilm is releasing those fucked up special editions, not only is false advertising but a waste of money. Lucas is a money hoarder. He releases upteenth versions on video and DVD, adds so called deleted footage on the prequel DVDs (that they filmed after the movie got released mind you), and now...these Blu-rays. Knowing Lucas, there will be about 3 or 4 more Blu-ray releases by the end of 2011.

You want to watch Star Wars? Buy the Family Guy Trilogy, I've gotten more entertainment out of them than I ever did with the movies.
Besides I've had the HD versions of the original trilogy on my home theater pc for over a year. I'm not giving Lucas another cent of my money till he gets his damn nose out of making movies and let more capable directors/producers handle his IP correctly.

Calling this the "Original" trilogy is bullshit. If it's the shit special editions, call it so.

I was almost hopeful for a second there that this might be the actual movies released in theaters but I should have known better. For that to happen, Lucas would have to stop being a COMPLETE fucking scumbag and waste of human flesh but that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Of course, the masses are going to eat this up and buy the fucking shit. "It's still Star Wars", they'll say. "The

Of course, the masses are going to eat this up and buy the fucking shit. "It's still Star Wars", they'll say. "The Special Editions aren't that bad", they'll say. Well, fuck that shit. It's not a matter of which is better or which is worse. It's simply a matter of respect and decency. Lucas doesn't respect the movies that made him his millions. He demonstrated this when he decide to not bother restoring the theatrical editions in any way, they weren't even anamorphic widescreen for fucks sake, for the eventual dvd release that came out as an extra disc attached to the special editions that came out 7 fucking years after the initial release. Even if the special editions were the most amazing films imaginable, it is still necessary to release the films in their original versions.

I vastly prefer the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven but under no circumstances would it be acceptable to not bother releasing the original theatrical edition. I may never watch it, but that was the film shown in theaters. That cut of the film has it's own fans and they deserve to see their preferred cut of the film when they want to. It's fine if you want to update special effects, colorize black and white films, add more blood and guts and foul language, or any other thing your little brain thinks up BUT, only under the condition that the original versions are released alongside it.

Look, Lucas is a douche. That is fact. Even if you like the SE's, you should realize this much. I mean, the asshole walks around wearing "Han Shot First" t-shirts as a big fuck you to the people that like his movies. Pic: [link] If that isn't an asshole, I'm not too sure I know what one is.

Lucas will never be half the man that Ridley Scott (Who personally oversaw the theatrical and directors cut versions of Alien for the bluray and a whopping FIVE different editions of Blade Runner) is, but he could at least throw the fans a fucking bone. It would cost next to nothing to restore the few scenes that haven't already been restored for the special editions and it would be even easier to put those scenes on the bluray and allow fans to watch the theatrical cut via seamless branching.

I can't understand why Star Wars is seen as an exception in the film lovers world. If it was decided that all black and white versions of Citizen Kane will cease to exist tomorrow and only colorized versions would be viewable from here on out, people would be pissed. If it was decided that the only way for you to watch Godfather 2 was a cgi filled one where Robert DeNiro was removed and replaced by a cgi recreation of a young Brando, people would be pissed. But Star Wars is seen as different.

You guys know me by now and know that I try to think through things rationally. I can't think of a single reason as to why it would be okay to not release the film that millions love. The worst argument I hear when it comes to Star Wars is always the whole "It's his movies, he can do whatever he wants with it". It's not his movie. What about Hamill, Ford, Fisher, Guiness and the rest of the cast? Does their opinion not matter. What about Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand, the directors of two of the films? Does the film that they made not belong to them?

I just think Lucas is setting a horrible precedent. Directors no longer have to feel any need to release a film for home audiences. It just seems wrong to me.

I try to avoid name calling when presenting an argument but obviously I wasn't entirely successful here. Lucas just rubs me the wrong way. Anyway, that's how I feel on the matter. :)

I love how the last part of the clip is Vader saying there is no escape. Lucas and co. just know that we are going to buy these even if we don't want to. There is no escaping it. And someone needs to show Lucas something called seemless branching and all will be right in whoville.

As long as the original editions of the movies are included and fully remastered.

Not like that re-release bullcrap they did a couple years ago when it was just a port of the Laserdisc. Shit I will buy the whole damn 9 disc set if I can watch the Original Editions of the Original Trilogy in full glory.
