Theater vs. newspaper

In the days of endless websites, tweets, widgets and iPhone apps, the further dismissal of newspapers shouldn’t be a shock. You are, after all, reading about it online.

Major theater chains Regal and AMC are looking for new ways to cut costs, and the old-school ink and parchment method of listing movie showtimes is taking the loss.

Paper publishers now have to smell the HTML — Regal claims that 60-80% of people surveyed got their movie times online. Both theater businesses are now eliminating newspaper ads and directing patrons to their own sites, third-party portals like Fandango and Moviefone, or networking sites like Facebook.
