Third and final Hangover film might be different. Possibly

12.05.2011

We all know THE HANGOVER PART III is going to happen- the first two films have simply made too much money for them not to try a third go. The response to the second might have been lukewarm but the boxoffice certainly wasn't, and the producers know that everyone's slammed it for being essentially a remake of the first film and won't make the same mistake again.

At least, we hope so.

Bradley Cooper recently appeared on the BBC's The Graham Norton Show and revealed a few tidbits, most noticably of the location.

Cooper: – what it’s going to be about?

Norton: Well, obviously it’s going to be about a hangover.

Cooper: I don’t know actually. I think that we adhered to the formula in the second one, for those who’ve seen it, and the third one, I think, which would close the whole trilogy… I think it’ll take place in Los Angeles and maybe not adhere to the structure, it might be different.

He also mentioned how they're likely going to start shooting next September.

Director Todd Phillips has long talked about how he envisioned HANGOVER as a trilogy, so this would be the final installment. Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis are set to return whenever it starts.

What do you think? Is a third film needed to wrap up this epic story? And would another hangover story be a bad (or necessary) thing?

"Director Todd Phillips has long talked about how he envisioned HANGOVER as a trilogy"

Really Todd? When you wrote the first movie you had so much material that it would justify three movies? You left so many questions unanswered it needs a third movie to answer them?

And let me guess, if the third one is a success the fourth one is supposed to be the first of a second trilogy?

Well I remember before the first one was released that they were banking on a successful movie and locked all the actors down for more sequels. I remember joblo saying it was a goo idea to lock them down before they blew in fame and price. Maybe thats what told meant?

First one was great...

The sequel was complete garbage. The best part of the movie was the first fifteen minutes because it was actually different. Yes i laughed a couple of times throughout but overall it was lazy and didnt deserve the money it made. I dont mind a third as long as its completely different.

What made the first one work so well wasn't so much the plot structure (though it flowed superbly) but the character dynamics between Stu, Phil, Alan, and yes Doug. Bradley Cooper's 'Phil' might be the most well-thought-out character of the bunch...he pretends to be the selfish live-free-or-die fratboy but...as he's the only family man of the group...is the biggest adult and takes on the role of leader, mediator, and nurturer. He's the balanced grown up of the group.

The sequel is pretty much a "What if the first one happened in Thailand?" and I'm totally fine with it. I wouldn't mind if they go for the same route in future sequels, as long as the events or locations are interesting, and Zach Galifianakis is around.

The first Hangover is a classic and is superior to the sequel, but the sequel is still one of the funniest movies I have ever seen and one of the best sequels I have seen.

People love these movies because the characters are awesome and so just so damn funny, relatable, and loveable.

Can't wait for the third.

this franchise is giving me a hangover

its the same premiss, same jokes, same everything, excuse me different location. Fuck this franchise, quit supporting hollywood's blatant LAZINESS.
Honestly, aren't people sick of reboots? and movies being made solely on the principle that the first made film made money (as said in the opening line of this article) ? Hollywood is making the film industry a joke.

for it to give you a hangover you would have to be drunk on it, and being drunk on it is a term for enjoying it. So therefor, you REALLY enjoyed the series and want more. Your red box should be a green box, you fucked up.

why do most people on this site always elude from the principle?

The definition of a hangover states : "any aftermath of or lingering effect from a distressing experience"...

so.. i didn't fuck up, i just know the english language better than you.

Well I loved the first and despised the second. You can't just tell the same jokes about the same things by the same people, otherwise you're just making Police Academy movies. Hangover 2 was imo the worst comedy to come out this year.

If they remake the exact same film for a third time, I'm gonna lose it.

The first Hangover was fucking hilarious, while the second one was funny at points, but did not quit live up to the first, hopefully the third will be up to par.

I have no problem with them getting drunk and not remembering the night before structure.
But why did the second one have to be a bachelor party? That is what made it TOO identical.
Have them get drunk, wake up in a jail cell and for their defense in court have to piece together what happened the night before.

Honestly, I could watch those guys make the same movie a dozen times.

And in all likelihood they will just make the same movie again. But I'm cool with that. It sure as shit beat The Change-Up, Friends With Benefits, No Strings Attached, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy, etc...

Hangover 2 was definitely one of the funniest films of the year, but I thought the Change Up was funnier. I would say The Change Up was the funniest film of the year, then Hangover 2.

And izzy2024, No Strings Attatched and Friends With Benefits both sucked. And those two movies had the SAME premise.

"Hangover" was funny, the sequel was not.

The sequel felt cheap and didn't explore new territories and having Ed Helms end up with trannies made me lose my lunch.

Phillips should just take a break for awhile, IMO. "Due Date" was another movie I wanted my hour and half back. It was stupid, unfunny, and felt like a root canal being pulled--- painful.

I hope to god that the third one is atleast somewhat different. The first one was hilarious the first time I saw it. But it loses it's charm the more you watch it. Plus when everyone and their grandmas start quoting it then it gets alittle lame. The second one sucked big ole balls though. My buddy and I went into the theater all toasted and lit (perfect state of mind to the enjoy the film) ready for a good time, but what we got was one of the worse excuses for a comedy I've ever seen. Seriously

Seriously we didn't laugh a single time throughout this so called "laugh-out loud comedy".

Im a big fan of Todd Philips. Old School, Road Trip, and Starsky and Hutch are some of my favorite comedies. Even Due Date has it's moments. But I can never defend the Hangover II.

...

Both Hangovers were unfunny, they seemed like just another R rated comedy with broad gags that never played out (the baby, the tiger, the monkey etc.). Outside of the appeal of the leads, the first movie didn't need a sequel and everyone seemed to agree what a drag the second was. I would say that Due Date was better than both films, which isn't saying much. For Phillips to say he envisioned it as a trilogy is a joke, he had no idea until the test screenings that the first could make some

Douche chill.
