Tim Allen signs on as Buzz for Toy Story 4, wait what?

07.16.2010

TOY STORY 3 is current many people’s favorite film of the year (myself included, though I'm seeing INCEPTION later tonight), and since trilogies are usually by no means a definitive ending for a series anymore, we’re all wondering if another one might get made down the road.

Well The Wrap is reporting that Tim Allen is under contract to reprise his role for TOY STORY 4, a project that doesn’t even officially exist. But the fact that the language IS in the contract implies that it’s certainly something the filmmakers are thinking about.

Disney’s official comment is that they have no plans for a sequel right now, though they will be debuting a TOY STORY short in front of CARS 2 next year. As for others involved with the series?

Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich recently discussed the possibility of "Toy Story 4" with MSN Movies, saying: "I really tried my best to end the story of Andy and his toys and bring that story to a close in a really nice way at the end of ['Toy Story 3'].

"That being said, we know that people love the characters, love Woody and Buzz, and would hate to say good-bye to them completely. ... We don't have any plans for (a fourth movie) -- but we are trying to find ways to keep the characters alive."

Tom Hanks, when asked about a "Toy Story 4" during the Los Angeles Premiere of "3," said: "Bring it on."

I don’t know, as much as I love the TOY STORY characters, I kind of want the series to end on a high note. The ending of the third film was a pretty much perfect bookend for the series, and too many franchises have been tainted by people saying, “oh maybe just one more.”

What do you think, do you want another TOY STORY?

Extra Tidbit: The trash incinerator scene has to be one of the most terrifying moments in kids movie history. Or any movie history for that matter.

Toy Story has ended. I don't mind if they want to put out a short now or then, but the series ended. For everything Pixar has worked for, a Toy Story 4 would simply kill the franchise.

It was wrapped up beatifully!

I admit that USED to love sequels, but now it seems as soon as film makes money there is sequel talks. Scratch that...there are sequel talks before they are even made! I still like sequels, but for every "Shrek 2" which was great, we get "Shrek 3" which was barely passable. Then we get crap that was "Shrek 4" which was not only bad, it was insulting to the characters (and the audience) & it seemed like nobody was even trying anymore but grabbing for cash from the International audience. I can't really blame them financially considering the last "Shrek" made another $476 Million outside of North America! Granted they are Pixar & they haven't made a bad movie yet. I'm sure they can make another "Toy Story" be very good, but it would be a shame because the really wrapped the trilogy beautifully.

First off, thank you for acknowledging Shrek 2 is great. Secondly, how can you say The Third was passable and the fourth wasn't? We have a comedian! Lastly, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Dreamworks is getting into their groove and no one's gonna be saying shit here in a lil bit, yo.

that sucks

its pixar; so no matter what they do itll probably be golden. but i genuinely thought toy story was above the rest as a franchise all around, this USED TO be compounded by the idea that they would end it in a well rounded way. this is just hollywood trying to make as much money as possible out of a successful franchise. as long as these movies make money, theyll keep making em. which i think is rather sad.

heres how you do it

First and Foremost Pixar is solid gold. nothing they make will ever be bad. it may sound like a bad idea but when the movie comes out you will be kicking yourself for not seeing how good with will be from a mile away.

2. i do agree that Pixar has announced too many sequals, we love them for their originality and lovable new characters, if anything i want a "INCREDIBLES 2"

3. anothing Toy Story Movie could work with a whole new cast of toys with andy's kids, maybe have cameos of Buzz and

This way they get to work in their confort zone using the hundreds of ideas that came with the first 3 TS. and still remaining fresh in the eyes of the audience.

The ending to 3 was great and should end it that way. A Buzz Light prequel would be better.

They should so have a subtitle this time. Like "Toy Story 4: Cash Grab" or "Toy Story: The Tale of Two Washed Up Actors Making Millions Off Disney's Greed"

but what if they used all new toys? Maybe throw in a couple from the trilogy to transition them in.

I loved Toy Story 3. so ya to me it should end as a trilogy period. Pretty nice dick move onm the writers part nearly giving away the ending, the writers on joblo should use better judgment or put a spoiler alert

No.

TS3 was a perfect ending to the series.
And it can only stay perfect if it's stays as the definitive ending to the series.

Yeah and Mark Hamill was attached to be in three Star Wars films (Episodes VII-IX) after Jedi. We all know that didn't happen.

Please leave Toy Story a trilogy, I feel extremely satisfied the way 3 closed the series.

I was a liitle skeptical at first about TS3 but when it came allong it blew me away! I have no doubt that if made, TS4 will be another masterpiece but I think they should do justice to the title and let it satnd as a toy story and not expand as toy storie's, I think the films came full circle with the third and I wish they would keep it that way, I have a feeling the TS short will somehow be a tie-in to a possible 4th film.

i think a Toy Story 4 movie would feel like Toy Story 2 in the sense that it would feel like more of the same without adding anything emotionally to the characters (not that there was anything wrong with that in 2). Also they ended Toy Story 3 so perfectly that I can't even imagine why/how they would expand on that except in the vein of "more of the same".

Having said that, I have more faith in Pixar than I do in God, so do what you will guys.

Just like with a TV series, I'd almost rather it be canceled in its prime than see it go 8 seasons and watch it stumble around like it's got Alzheimer's (Heroes, The Office). Don't do it Pixar!

It's Pixar and Toy Story, they wouldn't release it if it was bad. I don't mind it. They could do something that takes place 6-7 years from now, maybe Andy is married and has his own kid, an "Andy Jr" and now the girl who is a teen gives the toys back to him, so they "return home". IDK, something like that would be a good way to bring it all back together in a happy way. I'd trust pixar. Doesn't mean it's happening though. [Though Don Rickles and Estelle Harris are getting older...so I don't

I'd be more interested in a seeing a Toy Story 4 that was just about Buzz and the other Space Rangers. If anyone has rode the ride at Disneyland you can see they have other rangers, including a girl and some aliens that round out his team. I think that would be an excellent movie.

I'm not surprised. I can't say its a bad idea cause I do love the characters and seeing new adventures wouldn't be so bad. But I can't really jump on board either. The third film was a great wrap to the trilogy, and I would hate to see that get tarnished by an unnecessary sequel. Maybe if they used new toys for a new story. Idk, but I have a feeling it might just be time to move on. Doubt Disney can do that though.

I'd love to see the occasional shorts just to bring the characters around from time to time. The story ended with part 3, no need to try again.

I'll probably get thumbs down and can see why. They did end Toy Story 3 beautifully. But on the other hand, keep in mind this is just an option. Him signing doesn't mean it's for sure happening, just that if they ever do make one he's committed. And if Pixar ever decides to make another Toy Story, I trust they know what they're doing. Haven't made a bad film yet. They take their time. Took them 11 years to get a new Toy Story out. I say give them the benefit of the doubt. If it doesn't happen,

a perfect example

lets examine The indiana jones franchise for a second. I grew up on that character. But once studios start taking advantage of these memorable lovable characters they start to delude the quality of them. i say let these characters be and don't do a forth movie. but you can still keep the characters alive in a different way. Shorts would be ok if they are done well but then you are just giving people false hope for another sequel. TS3 was just way too good to top, in my opinion.

Ala Will Smith..."Aww Hell No!!"

Did I absolutely adore Toy Story (1,2,and 3)? Yes. Will I ever forget those oh so lovable characters? Never ever. Do I want to see them in a feature film again? NO. Again...NO! The Toy Story trilogy is one of those rare cases in which all three movies are incredibly good. The story went full-circle. It ended on a high note. It was everything it was meant to be. Now leave it alone, and move on. I have the utmost faith in Pixar, so I hope they don't gamble on the decent perception everyone has on

I'll give Pixar the benefit of the doubt

They haven't messed up yet, so a Toy Story 4 could be a good thing. I'm sure Disney would have loved a Toy Story 3 back in 2006 right after they bought Pixar for $7.4 billion but instead they got Ratatouille, WALL-E and Up.

Considering they got Michael Arndt for TS3, could you imagine a Christopher Nolan script for Toy Story 4? :D

I don't think they should make another one, but i'm in if they do it. But making shorts could be a good idea to keep Woody & Buzz world alive. You know, ala WALLACE & GROMIT, a few shorts in the next 10-20 years will be great.

Being that the "Buzz Lightyear" toy is a mass produced one it won't necessarily have to be about Andy's Buzz....Woody on the other hand was an older toy and a collector's item, that may be harder to explain.

I think making another Toy Story movie would be a bad move. Toy Story 3 ended on such a high note and the ending to that movie became one of my favorite endings ever to any movie/trilogy. I know it sucks that we won't be seeing our favorite toys on the screen again, but we have to let go of them just like Andy did in the movie. All I'm saying is Toy Story 3 was flawless and ended the franchise on a really high note and would hate to see a mediocre fourth movie.

... I always thought Andy would eventually pass his favourite toys on to his children. Maybe he has misgivings about giving them away and goes in search of them years later?

The problem with this is that the story ended perfectly in the last one and this will seem forced.

It's a cash-in, no doubt, but it's an idea.

and all of the characters. 3 was a perfect ending to the series. Sure I'll miss the characters, but that's what makes the final goodbye so emotional. What is wrong with Hollywood? Can they never be satisfied?

END IT HERE.

The ending to Toy Story 3 was absolutely a pitch perfect ending to this trilogy. It was heartbreaking while at the same time extremely touching. And what also made it more perfect is that the ending shot was a shot of the clouds in the sky. That's the shot that the first movie started with(the clouds/sky wallpaper in Andy's room). I couldn't think of a better way for them to end this series. So let's keep it that way.

NO!

Making a short is a great idea.
Making Toy Story 4 is now officially money grubbing. The closed the story perfectly with the third one, why in god's name would they want to ruin that by returning for a fourth one? Money, of course, but I thought Pixar had more integrity than that. Yes, I do agree with the fact that so far, they managed to make every sequel better than the last one in this particular trilogy, but I'm still against the idea of a fourth Toy Story...

Extra tidbit : Yeah, that

Extra tidbit : Yeah, that scene was nerve wrecking. Seeing how they made it out alive of so many situations just seconds earlier, I really did think they were gonna burn and be recycled as new toys or something like that. I was saying to myself : "Jesus, Pixar, I know you took a darker turn with the Incredibles, but this?!? This is just not right!"...

"The trash incinerator scene has to be one of the most terrifying moments in kids movie history." - I have to agree. I was blown away that that sequence was allowed into the film at all. It rivals the Knife Fight in Saving Private Ryan. Both scenes wrecked me. As for another Toy Story film, that's a bad idea. Shorts would be better.

Listen.. nobody wants the 3rd one ruined but what indication has Pixar already shown that they even could ruin a sequel? Nobody thought Toy Story 2 or 3 could work.. and each once is significantly better then the other. Of course I have my doubts but if they put as much heart and soul into every single screen play that I wouldn't mind it... and for now... I have no reason to think they won't.

That's really upsetting to hear. I understand that Pixar is a company, and like any company, relies on trademarks to boost the revenue, but I had this hint of hope that had the ability to be above that, to know that they had the potential to create material just as good as the one before it... Stay humble, Pixar. Don't compete. You don't have to.

Greed will eventually ruin Pixar. Sigh.

Spoiler...

Pixar lately has seemed a little too 90s Disney lately with rumours of re-releases, the Planes direct-to-DVD spinoff and numerous sequels...

As for the extra tidbit - Toy Story 3 isn't out in the UK yet and so far I'd avoided hearing about the "big emotional scary set piece". Spoiler alert may have been nice.
