TV spot spoils T4

06.05.2009

UPDATE - I'm told that it wasn't WB but Sony Pictures, who holds international rights to TERMINATOR, that released the Arnold clip below...

In a last ditch effort to get butts in the seats for TERMINATOR SALVATION, which has been a critical and commercial disappointment, Warner Bros. has decided to air a TV spot that gives away the big reveal at the end of the film: Schwarzenegger. Of course it's no secret that Arnold was lending his likeness to the film (since we covered it ad nauseum) but giving away how it all plays out seems a little desperate to me. I saw it on TV with a bunch of people who hadn't seen the movie yet and they were really bummed out that it gave away the one part of the film they were looking forward to. If you're so inclined, you can check out the clip below. Otherwise, nothing to see here... move along people...

That Variety article is trash. It's Terminator not a fucking comedy and in the old script Connor died and Marcus took his face. Thanks Christian Bale for saving us from that shit.

most people that saw it hated it?

as far as i know most people who saw it either liked it, or thought it was "ok" or "decent" which is far from "hating" it.

of course, it was no james cameron film.

it was freaking mcg, and at his best. it was an enjoyable film, by no means amazing, but a good film none the less.

oh and i really dislike mcg, but thought he gave an honest effort. it was as good as a mcg film could possibly be.

i still say a solid 7.5-8 out of 10.

much better

T4 is not as bad as people are saying it is, ya sure alot of the mythology of the first 2 films are gone but its still a great action film. I do agree that a couple characters were not necessary like the woman soldier was obviously for eye candy & Conners wife but i think the submarine comander character was needed to question John Conners authority instead of the well whatever he says goes since the future depends on him.

Oh and stop blaming directors for movies also its so old, McG did

It was an average action film... nothing more. I'm not surprised that people aren't going to see it. Terminator fans and action enthusiants went to see the movie at first, and then when a predominate amount of them told their friends to avoid it, box office went down. This is just a desperate attempt to get more money, and I don't think it's going to work, especially since a lot of the people who would be intrigued by the Arnold clip have already seen it, and like you said, its just going to

All the movies did better over seas by at least 65% in most markets. The money made from that will be better then US money as our money isn't worth shit nowadays!!! So this is far from a box office bust. The 3rd film did 150 million in 11 weeks and that was in 2003 when our money was worth more. So The forgein market will be the monoey maker for this one just like all the others were for it. It still needs to open in Japan within the next two weeks (possibly one week) And the 3rd film did 65

face it guys, this movie was a financial and commercial disappointment. It got awful reviews, and most people that saw it hated.

"And yes, there were some things that needed fixing, but really, I was glad to finally see the man vs. machine war I've been waiting for for more or less 20 years."

really? you saw it? cause i didn't. instead of epic battles at night with armies of terminators all i got was a motorcycle chase,a hunter killer here and there, and one terminator in an abandoned city.

See this is the problem. The general public has lowered their standards so much that trash like this becomes "a good time" and "a blast".

We need to demand more from these filmmakers. You shouldn't get paid millions to produce crap.

I loved that scene...when the music kicked in I was giggling like a little school girl.

Screw the haters...I had a blast with the film and think it is a good first chapter to the war with machines. Here's hoping for another one!

I just saw Terminator yesturday. And yes, there were some things that needed fixing, but really, I was glad to finally see the man vs. machine war I've been waiting for for more or less 20 years. I think that outweighs any little glitches in the movie.

I hate Mcg

I am a huge Terminator fan, so much that once I heard Mcg got the directing gig I gave up all hope on this movie. I did not read articles about the movie, when I went to see a movie and the trailer for this movie came on. I closed my eyes, clinched my ears tight hummed until the trailer was gone. I avoided every screenshot, clip before seeing it in theaters. I admit it does have it's inconsistency's and anyone could've done the job Mcg did. I went it, thinking I would hate every minute of

not going to see it now...

I haven't seen the film yet, but in all honesty, after all of my pals said this movie wasnt as good as the third one, I still wanted to see Arnold in it. Now that I've seen him, I can wait for the DVD.

Oh and I almost forgot about the most ridiculous heart transplant in cinematic history.

He needs a new heart? Oh he can have mine. Yeah just do a transplant in the middle of this dusty field. It is the future, after all.

I can't believe some of you are calling this movie a fun experiece. I could see the average moviegoer who doesn't lurk on movie news sites and just isn't all that passionate about the business coming to that conclusion.

But come on! T4 was terrible. MCG is a terrible director who doesn't deserve the privilege of making movies. There were only 3 characters in this movie that even needed to be there. John Connor, Marcus Wright and Kyle Reese. The rest of the cast served absolutely no purpose.

The general guy in the submarine was in the movie for like five minutes total and then he dies. WHO CARES, MCG? We don't even know who that guy is?

And don't get me started on Moon Bloodgood. Marcus: "I'm not a good person." Moon: "Yes you are. You just don't know it yet." She says this after knowing the guy for about an hour and a half. How the hell does she know he's a good person. Or for that matter what he's even referring to by saying he's not a good man. She doesn't even ask him about it. STUPID.

And why, when he's defending Moon from the backwoods rapist gang, do his punches not make the guys heads explode? He's grappling with the T-800 at the end of the movie, and yet some chains wrapped around his arms are strong enough to hold him in place. LAME.

And how the hell is Christian Bale punching and kicking robots? How about some goddamn consistency, MCG?!

This flick was absolutely terrible.

I have to see this movie again now!

Seeing this preview has me hyped to go see it again. This was the funnest experience I've had at the movies all year.

OH, COME ON!

Vanity Fair is becoming like a mic piece for a emo kid who hates everything and does nothing. T.Salvation wasn't a bombastic awesome movie but it was a lotta' fun and if anything, the actors (INCLUDING so-called brooding Christian Bale) are the ones who saved the film from McG's amateurish style of storytelling and weird character development.

Terminator Salvation was a good, fun flick. And a more mature, soldier-like John Connor is way more believable than some quirky kid who wants to save the world. And of course he's brooding. Violent f'n machines are ruling the world. Everything's gone to sh!t. What would anyone expect him to do? Go out for a stroll in the park?

Vanity Fair

That Vanity Fair article that is linked in the tidbit is bullshit. Where does the writer get off saying,

"Without Robert Downey Jr.’s breezy Tony Stark Iron Man would have been a notch above a Power Rangers movie."

What the fuck? Never mind Jeff Bridges, the Favs, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc.

Also,

"Without Chris Pine’s sprightly, playful Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’s reboot of Star Trek, we’re left with Star Trek: Nemesis."

Finally,

"Even The Dark Knight, for all its nihilistic despair, shines thanks to Heath Ledger’s manic energy as the Joker."

Uh, yeah...and the directing, the script and not to mention Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart and Eric Roberts.

As for how serious Bale was about playing Connor, I think he was spot on his quote to Vanity Fair. Getting rid of a faith based John Connor and going with a trained soldier John Connor was the right move. No matter if the T4 still wasn't able to pull it off.

Vanity Fair needs to shut the fuck up.

Sorry for the rant.

This is nothing unexpected. Studios ALWAYS reveal secrets after a few weeks of release. Fucking fun ass movie, though.

I've posted many times I've really enjoyed the flick. However, WB was terrible with the trailers and now tv spots for the movie. Dont get me wrong, I loved the NIN music in the theatrical trailer. But lets face it, this isnt the first thing they've given away. You knew going in that Marcus Phoenix wasnt human, because of the part in the trailer where Bales Connor goes, "You think you're human?" and then drops the chains...followed by a "Noooooooooo!!!!" Also the line, "What are you!?"

i know a lot of ppl didn't like this movie...

...and i can see why they don't, but for some reason i liked it. maybe b/c i wasn't expecting it to be awesome (T2 is still the best in the series IMO), but i was thoroughly entertained. seeing ahnuld's likeness was freaking awesome. best part of the movie.

so i guess i've learned that if i lower my expectations, i end being more satisfied!

That's not the worst part...

I hate when trailers give away the endings of movies, cameos, or some aspect of a movie that should never be advertised because it'll take away from the overall enjoyment of the film. Since they ruined one of the few sort of fun parts of the movie I think I'm going to give the biggest spoiler of all: THE MOVIE SUCKS! Save your money and go watch paint dry. It has better action and unlike Christian Bale won't overact.
